Q. Struffy, how do you explain what happened in that tiebreak?
JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: What do you mean? The first points till 6-1 or after?
Q. Up 6-1, after.
JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: Yeah, I mean, I think the whole tiebreak was a bit strange because I had the feeling in the match I didn't get into the rallies like I wanted. I think he played very well in some shots. He made it difficult for me. Yeah, I didn't had like the rally matchup I wanted in some points.
I think in the first points of the tiebreak I made very good. But from 6-1 on, he served well the first point. I went to the net one point. He passed me pretty well. With this point I'm thinking, Okay, that can happen, it's good. Yeah, one point was close out. It was a bit unlucky.
But I would just say things like this can happen. He was fighting. He was grinding back. The last two points hit the net, didn't went over. These are just small margins. For sure it would have been great to go to the third after saving three match points.
Yeah, this doesn't feel amazing to lead 6-1 and lose 6-8. That happened in the past. I got back from 1-6, all-6 in tiebreaks. So this can happen.
Q. From that point of 6-1 up, he was starting to pick up the points. Was there a level of nerves towards the end as it was getting even closer? Did nerves come into play at all?
JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: In the tiebreak I wouldn't say so, no. It was maybe a little tension before. Like I said, this can happen.
I had the feeling I was still going for the shots after this, yeah. I went to the net one point. One point he served well. He went for it. One forehand went out. The other forehand went out. I didn't feel like there was like a tight mistake. I didn't felt that. The last two balls I went for it.
Yeah, I mean, there was not too much nerves. Yeah, it was strange because I had the feeling I can go the distance. You never know what happens in the third. Yeah, just little margins that didn't went over. I couldn't decide and force a third.
