An interview with:
WANG XINYU
THE MODERATOR: Xinyu, welcome back to the China Open. How are you feeling ahead of the tournament?
WANG XINYU: I'm excited to be back in China, in Beijing. I always enjoyed playing here and I'm happy to see us back in China. Yeah, really looking forward to my first.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in Chinese.
Q. You met a lot of fans in the past two days. You've been taking pictures with the fans. How are you feeling this year compared to previous years?
WANG XINYU: Every year I'm here at the China Open, I feel the friendliness here. I just came here two days ago. Every session of practice, I try to stop by to sign autographs for the fans. I'm also happy to see everyone here in the coming two days.
Q. The draw is out. You see your opponent in the next round. Your next player is Anisimova. How do you feel about this?
WANG XINYU: Of course, she's a really good player. The most important thing is to focus on yourself, your own preparation. To play her, I would need to be more aggressive. I have two days to prepare for my first match here.
Q. I'm not sure if this is your first press conference coming back to China. You had a wonderful performance at the Olympics. You also went to the Great Hall of the People. How did you feel about this?
WANG XINYU: Indeed, it's very magical, wonderful, this Olympics for me. After I finished the Olympics, I got this surprise. I got the silver medal at the Olympics. Very happy. I felt very proud of myself.
I'm really happy to win this silver medal with Zhang Zhizhen. Before that, I didn't really know him. After playing these matches together, I feel he is a really good player. We get along very well.
After the Olympics, we did not know there was a reception at the Great Hall of the People. Right after that, I had an event, a tournament, right before the US Open. I thought about it. I was there. So I played the matches. I'm very sorry I wasn't able to come to the reception at the Great Hall of the People.
Now I'm back in China. The next few tournaments will be in Asia. Really happy about it.
Q. After the Olympics, the success of the Olympics, what did it mean to you? Was it life-changing for you? Could you share your experience with us. After the Olympics, anything you want to improve in terms of physicality, technique? The injury to your elbow...
WANG XINYU: After the Olympics, I'm really happy because I'm very happy to be an Olympian. I've been through the Olympics. This is already a really great feat for me, representing the country, getting a really good performance at the Olympics. It was really life-changing. Not only the Olympics, but also tournaments, the US Open. I think every tournament, every event was meaningful to me because I've been improving every time.
I think, looking back on this year, I've been in a lot of big events, 1000 level, the Grand Slams. In each event, I had the chance and opportunity to compete against top players.
For me, these are really good processes for me to improve.
Q. (No microphone.)
WANG XINYU: Well, I'm doing more protection because it's almost the end of the season. I need to pay attention to my own health.
