V. KUDERMETOVA/Wang Xinyu
3-6, 6-4, 7-5
THE MODERATOR: Not the result you wanted today, but it was a very hard-fought match out there. Can you give us your overall thoughts on the match today.
WANG XINYU: Yeah, I mean, I gave everything out there. She was playing better, like, throughout the match. Yeah, just a couple points. I think she was better there than me, yeah.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in Chinese.
Q. What are your plans for the doubles? The Asian Swing, you did not schedule any doubles. What are your plans for doubles?
WANG XINYU: Yeah, it was temporary. When we finished the U.S. season, she asked me whether I wanted to play in the China Open. I said okay. It was a very temporary team.
I look forward to playing with Su-Wei in the China Open. Last year in the China Open, our journey was short. We look forward to a longer run in the China Open this year.
Q. After 5-All in the third set, there were three points to save your serve. What was the turning point for you?
WANG XINYU: To my regret, it was in the second set, 4-All, 30-All. I was playing in the middle of the court. I wasn't able to create the angle. I really regret that shot.
My service game? The opponent wasn't changing too much. In that service game, there were two double-faults. My first serve didn't work that well.
In the third set, the opponent was doing very well in terms of changing things up. She was willing to be more aggressive in the third set.
Q. In what part of your game do you want to improve? In today's match, does it have anything to do or would it help you improving your tactics in the future?
WANG XINYU: I think the match today in the first set, also in the second set, I was the one who was more aggressive. I was doing very well. It only came down to a few points that turned the tables.
Every time when I was losing a match, the experience I could gain from it, the improvement I could get, was actually more than a victory. This is something I will work on in the future.
Q. I saw you celebrating your birthday with your fans. A very touching moment. Seeing the support you have gained, would you share some of your thoughts with us? Also you talk about the plan in the future. What are the ways you want to improve?
WANG XINYU: I'm really happy to celebrate my birthday here with the fans. I feel a lot of love here. Many gifts, many flowers. People came to my practice court singing happy birthday to me. Every year I kind of celebrate my birthday here in the China Open.
Coming back to the Asian Swing, coming back to China, it's the end of the season. I hope, like what I said before, this year I can put 100% into it without having concerns with health or any other matters, that I can give 100% in every match to show my best form to the fans.
Q. The injury with your wrist, your arm, did it impact your match today?
WANG XINYU: You see the plaster here, but I've actually found a better way to help myself with the bandages. It is actually improving. I want to finish the Asian Swing with a positive note, so I want to protect myself better.
