WANG XINYU: I'm still a little bit upset because I just lost my phone, I was looking for it. Many years have gone by, this is my first time coming back to Wuhan, first victory. First round is always very tough.
At the beginning of this match, it was very tough. When I saw opportunities, I did very well, took the chances. I was able to have a really good score in the second set.

Q. You came to the Wuhan Open before at different ages with different performances. Coming back, what are your views? You have some activities in Wuhan. Can you talk about those.
WANG XINYU: As a kid, I came to Wuhan very often. As a kid, I played many matches here in Wuhan on the practice courts. I have been very familiar with Wuhan as a city. To my regret, I cannot handle spicy food so I cannot appreciate a lot of good food in Wuhan.
But coming back, I can see myself improving. I see old friends. I am showing my best level, showing my best level here in Wuhan.
Q. How was it celebrating the birthday with your coach? What is the atmosphere like on-site?
WANG XINYU: The last day of the National Day holiday, choosing tonight coming to watch the match, the crowd was very passionate. Thank you for singing 'happy birthday' with me.
Q. Could you talk about your preparation before the tournament. This is your first victory in this tournament. What kind of preparation do you need going forward? What are your goals for this event?
WANG XINYU: I think coming from Beijing to Wuhan, I've been very happy coming back to China, to be in these two big tournaments on home soil.
Physically I'm feeling well. I can play in each match without any external concerns. I can put in 100% in each match.
Q. In the Paris Olympics, you won a silver medal in the mixed doubles with Zhang Zhizhen. He's playing in the Shanghai Masters. Did you have any conversations with him?
WANG XINYU: Coming back to the tour, not much. We have a lot of things on our agenda. It wasn't like during the Paris Olympics because we were playing as a team so we could have a lot of back and forth during that time.
I'm really happy to see the breakthroughs of Chinese male players like Bu and Zhang Zhizhen. I will support them.
