THE MODERATOR: Welcome to the press conference with Jack Sock and Patrick McEnroe.
Questions.
Q. Jack, how did that feel for you? What was the discussion on the bench after that first set?
JACK SOCK: It felt great, obviously. I think we all know the importance of that match to start the day. Being behind 11-4 would have been, safe to say, a difficult battle to come back from.
Yeah, we just turned it around. I mean, JMac was obviously staying positive the whole time on the bench. Felix and I were trying to pump each other up.
They came out extremely hot. We just kind of had to ride the storm, obviously raise our level, and we were able to do that throughout the second and third.
Q. Patrick, your thoughts on the performance of Jack and Felix just now?
VICE CAPTAIN PATRICK McENROE: It was a great turnaround, because definitely those guys came out super hot. Matteo has been on fire the last 24 hours. So I think our energy level picked up, especially Felix, who was much more aggressive I thought around the net. That just helped everything. He served great, and that just seemed the help the entire energy of both guys.
I think our bench played a huge part. The guys on the side were really into it and locked in. I think that helped Jack and Felix sort of get over the hump.
Amazing tiebreak. Both teams played great. Jack came up with an incredible match-point volley to finish it.
Q. Jack, how would you evaluate your performances at the Laver Cup this year? You have obviously been involved in a lot of the matches so far. How do you see how you went?
JACK SOCK: I mean, yeah, like I said after the singles, I was probably written off going up against a guy who's 2 in the world. Thought I played some great tennis. I had confidence going into that. There was no reason I couldn't win. Gave myself chances.
Like we have all talked about, years prior, obviously we had a couple of guys on the team I played a lot of doubles with. We had a lot of confidence in a couple of our teams in the years prior, which has given us some chances, as well, I feel like to win the event, along with our singles guys. This year was a little different, because it's never easy playing with somebody new.
We had three all-new pairings this year, but we all trust each other, all backed each other. Singles and doubles kept the energy up, and we were able to get two of the three, which hopefully, by the end of today, will be a crucial advantage for us is the doubles.
Q. Jack, you were just saying you were up two of the three. Put you on the spot, who did you find the most comfortable to play with in the doubles?
JACK SOCK: I wasn't uncomfortable playing with anybody. I have played with a lot of partners over my career and had success with different guys.
You know, in regular tournaments or the normal scheduled tournaments are a little different. Obviously all these guys are top in the world. It's all happening fast out there. Everybody's unbelievable at tennis.
Yeah, there was some adjustment getting to know each other a little bit out there, but I think to get two of the three was fairly impressive I think on our end with all new guys.
Q. Jack, I remember you playing last year a challenger in Lugano. How was your journey from then until now? A long one.
JACK SOCK: Yeah, Lugano, a beautiful place, by the way. I don't know what I was ranked, probably 160ish maybe at the time. Obviously got up to 100 this year. I feel like I have had a lot of great matches. Had some chances to beat some very good players, as well, kind of prove myself again. Unfortunately no points at Wimbledon or else I'd be about 70, 75, which would be great (smiling).
It is what it is. I'm going to keep going. I'm going to keep grinding until my hips and knees give out. Yeah, keep striving. I think I've still got some good tennis left.
