Captain Bjorn Borg

On-Court Interview

C. RUUD/T. Paul

7-6, 6-2

Team Europe - 2

Team World - 6

Q. Bjorn, as ever, absolute pleasure to see you. It's not been the easiest day and a half for your team, though.

CAPTAIN BJORN BORG: Well, first of all, I have to say it's nice for Team Europe to do interview. (Laughter.)

We have to change a little bit anyway. But I'm happy for Casper. He did a great match. But Team World is strong. They have been playing great tennis. I think hopefully we will be slowly coming back.

Q. I guess not everybody in the stadium will know, but obviously last night you got Team World's kind of picks. They said who they wanted to play and what order they wanted to play today. You had the opportunity to match up who you wanted to play against. It didn't work out so well in the opening match for Andrey. It was a tight one. But Casper, were you confident that match was going to go that way?

CAPTAIN BJORN BORG: Well, I think it doesn't really matter who you play. I mean, it's two great teams with six great players. The people is going to see great tennis, good matches. Doesn't really matter who you play.

They are very professional, the players who are competing in both teams. So it doesn't matter. They know they have to play great tennis to win the matches. So it doesn't really matter.

It's going to come down to, it's going to be interesting tonight, and then tomorrow is going to be even more interesting regarding the matches.

Q. For yourself, how good is it to be back in Vancouver? I know you took on Johnny Mac in 1984 after you had retired. You came up here and had a game with John. I won't tell everybody how that one went. How nice is it to be back in this part of the world?

CAPTAIN BJORN BORG: Well, I think you're asking regarding John?

Q. Yeah.

CAPTAIN BJORN BORG: John, we are very good friends. We love what we are doing here to be captains of the teams of Laver Cup. For me personally and even for John, it means a lot. Laver Cup is very important.

I'm very proud to be happy to handle Team Europe, and we both are very competitive. We hate to lose, both of us. We love to win.

But anyway, it's nice to see each other during Laver Cup. To spend time with the teams and to see John, it's such a nice thing.

Q. Always a pleasure to see you, as I'm sure these fans think as well. Good luck for tonight.

CAPTAIN BJORN BORG: Thank you.
