6-3, 6-4
Team Europe - 3
Team World - 9
THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. A clean sweep for Team World today. Alex Michelsen, how pleased were you to get the win tonight?
ALEX MICHELSEN: Yeah, super happy to get the win. Tough day for me yesterday. Came really close a couple of times. Honestly, just super inspiring from all the boys coming out and getting straight-sets wins over amazing players. Just an unbelievable day at the office for all of us.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. Alex, firstly, how is your ear?
ALEX de MINAUR: It's feeling great.
Q. Didn't look too good on the screen.
ALEX de MINAUR: It's fine.
ALEX MICHELSEN: He didn't feel it, though. He's fine.
ALEX de MINAUR: It was good. It was a good day at the office. I'm glad we were able to get a big win for Team World.
I mean, Alex was unbelievable again today on the court. It was a pleasure to be by his side and watch him just dominate that court.
Yeah, it was a good day.
Q. It was a great day. How would you compare this Laver Cup with the first one in London, which was pretty good for you as well? Is it a different experience this year round?
ALEX de MINAUR: It's hard to compare. We're talking about Roger's farewell, right? That was a pretty special moment. The fact that we were all able to be a part of it was pretty amazing, and now we are playing in front of him.
It's pretty crazy where we are right now, but so far this Laver Cup has given me more wins than the first one. So it's been pretty good to me so far.
Q. General question, love to hear from both of you on this. So the three singles wins are all technically upsets according to the rankings. I think, Alex, you had only beaten him in team events, and Fritz hadn't beaten Alcaraz before. What do you think it is about team events that maybe leads to or sets the tone where these more surprising results might be more possible?
ALEX MICHELSEN: Well, I think just having some of your peers just yelling for you, you know, for hours on end. I think that's a really big thing. At least for me.
I was playing horrible yesterday, and I got really inspired by seeing everyone cheering for me, and I think -- I mean, you'll have to ask my friend over here, but I think that is a big part of it.
You're playing for more than yourself. That's another big thing.
ALEX de MINAUR: Yeah, look, I was thinking what Alex said, it's about getting out for your teammates and bringing that energy. Ultimately, a day like today, as you said, there were opposites.
We knew we had to come out and play a certain type of way. We all executed and played some great tennis. So, ultimately, everything kind of went our way.
Q. Just thinking about momentum, I mean, you see a crowd like this, it's hard to not think about momentum, but if you talk to some analytics people, they say it's not really a real thing. Three wins leading up to you guys, how did you deal with that, bringing into your match? Then going into tomorrow, how do you feel like you guys are set up to carry that in, or is it a completely fresh day for you guys tomorrow?
ALEX de MINAUR: I think the way I see it we still got two wins to get tomorrow, right? That's what we're going for. We're going for the win.
Tomorrow is going to be a completely new day, and we've got to get some good sleep and recovery and bring the energy straight out of the blocks and be ready for a battle. They're going to throw everything at us. They've got no other choice. Hopefully we're going to be ready for that.
Q. Did you feel it out there, the momentum going in?
ALEX MICHELSEN: All those analytics people, they're not on the court playing like we are. We talked about momentum a couple of times during that match. You can feel when it's shifting. Sometimes you have to fight it off. Sometimes you have to roll with it. So it's a very real thing.
I think tomorrow the momentum is not going to matter as much because it's a fresh day, and that's what they're thinking. That's what we're going to think, too. You know, we're going to have to go out there and compete as hard as we can and try to get a win.
