Quick Quotes

Q. Six birdies and four bogeys in a round of 70. How do you reflect on that one?

EUGENIO CHACARRA: It was a long day. Obviously it wasn't easy to play with two of my idols, and I knew as I started a little bit nervous. But just the driver broken yesterday on the Pro-Am, on my 14 hole, my 60, it didn't help.

I've been with that driver since February. I know a lot about that face, I know a lot about the driver. And even though the backups, they say it's the same, it definitely wasn't the same.

I see a little more loft on the club. It started getting in my head, and I was kind of like hitting across a bit, and I hit zero fairways on the front nine. So in this course, playing in the afternoon, there's a little more wind and the greens are a little -- not as good as in the morning. If you miss nine fairways, you're going to make some bogeys.

So I just reflect on the back nine. It was a big fight, you know. I turned on 1-over; I finished 2-under. I made a bad swing on 17. I tried to hit a club probably I shouldn't. I tried to go for the birdie instead of just taking the 30-footer.

But I'm happy that I fight it. I'm happy with the fight. And I just need to go do some work on the range to find a driver for tomorrow.

Q. And you do have components that you're going to put together and test this evening, I'm assuming?

EUGENIO CHACARRA: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got a couple -- I have three different shafts, and I have the weights. I only have two heads. I travel with three, two backups. Well, obviously my mine broke yesterday, so I'm down to two. And I just need to -- I've got weights and stuff to try to get the spin down.

More or less, it's just -- I mean, I don't know the numbers, obviously, because I don't have the Quad or the TrackMan, but I can see in the air spinning way more than I needed. And the warm-up this morning, was already doing that.

So it's just a matter of kind of like cooking it a little, and hopefully I can get a better driver tomorrow.

Q. You say every day is a learning day. As you're a young man and you're experiencing these things for the first time, how much did you learn today?

EUGENIO CHACARRA: I learned a lot. It was a pleasure to play with Rory. Obviously, he's a tremendous player, but he's also an amazing person, everything that I ask and how he is on the course.

I was saying that a minute ago, but, like, when he made that double on 12, how he reacted. Obviously, you're not expecting to make a double from 100 yards from the middle of the fairway, one of the best players in the world.

So how he reacted and birdied three of the next four and almost made a birdie four in a row is something that I still don't do. A bogey or a double affects me more than it needs to.

So it was just a learning process. Obviously, he's better than me in every aspect of the game, and he's been doing it for 20 years at a high level.

So, yeah, it was awesome. I dream of this since I was little, play with my idols and the best players in the world. So I learned a lot.

I enjoyed a lot. And I think obviously with the things that I was uncomfortable on with a driver that I didn't like, I think I put a good test. I fight it a lot and I -- like, I play. I shoot as low as possible every time I go out there, and I think I did a good job on that.

Q. Just finally, obviously, we just heard that Rory was issued a two-shot penalty for potentially improving his lie on 12. What was your take on it?

EUGENIO CHACARRA: I said that I don't think he improves his lie. Obviously, the referee and him thought different. Like, in the video, it doesn't look great, but, I mean, we've been watching Rory for a long time, and he's a class man and never tries to improve his lies or do anything.

So obviously with this grass in the middle, it's a fluffy grass, so as soon as you put the weight of the club, the grass is going to come down.

So even though I said like, hey, how is he supposed to hit that shot, you know, like, I just need to learn. And it's just like I think it's 50/50. I was happy -- I told him I was happy to fight for it because I didn't think he improved it. But obviously, the media and everything, he thought it didn't look very good.

To be fair, in the video, it doesn't look great. But like I said, I don't think he improved it at all, and obviously he's a class man. And I know he's going to go fired up tomorrow. That's going to fire him up, and he's going to probably shoot the lowest round of the day tomorrow. So I told him that I was sorry and thanks for the round, and yeah, it was a pleasure.
