Quick Quotes

Q. Obviously a little frustrated to three-putt the last but nevertheless a 66 is a good round. How good does it feel to you?

JON RAHM: It's a really good round of golf. Took advantage of the easier conditions today, right, and did what I needed to early on. 5-under through nine holes with that eagle on 18 is great and just kind of kept it going. Too bad, from 10, 11, my 12th hole on, when things cooled off a little bit. I was still making good swings. Just not giving myself the best chances.

Unfortunately on my 18th hole, on 9 it's not an easy fairway to hit. And I split the fairway, hit a perfect 7-iron, 18 feet straight up the hill and to three-putt that just leaves a bit of a sour taste.

But perspective is a big thing and I told Adam, if you look at the scorecard the way it's intended to be read, starting on 1, it was a great finish. I'm just going to remind myself of that.

Q. Your second to 18 was a remarkable shot, very nearly went in for an albatross two. Describe that one for us.

JON RAHM: Yeah, that was a little bit of fortune, not going to lie. I had a really good lie and with the left-to-right wind, I had to just fade it a little bit to guarantee the ball wouldn't go in the water which for me is not that difficult to do. It was 176 metres and choked up with a 6-iron and tried to over-fade it.

Funny to say that, but it's sometimes out of that stuff, the ball doesn't react exactly the way you expect it to and it just came out dead straight. Never left the flagstick and landed in the perfect spot, and left myself three feet for eagle.

I couldn't see how close it was to the hole, so I couldn't tell you how close it went. But based on where it finished, I'm sure it was very close to having a chance to go in. But 3 is a heck of a score after the blunder yesterday on 18.
