The K Club, Ryder Course

Marcel Schneider

Quick Quotes

Q. Marcel, incredible way to finish that round with three closing birdies. Tell us what was going through your mind there.

MARCEL SCHNEIDER: Well, obviously the shots into the greens have been amazing, especially the last two. I think I almost holed out on the 8th green, so my 17th hole. And then the last one was pretty close as well. So I think I just smashed it right next to the cup.

So, yeah, overall I was pretty happy. The game was right there where I want it to be. And, yeah, I'm looking forward to the next three rounds.

Q. I think there was a general consensus that The K Club was playing a little tougher this year given how much tighter the fairways are and the rough being grown up. Were you a bit surprised coming in, the kind of scoring that was being put on the board?

MARCEL SCHNEIDER: Yeah, a hundred percent. We had a discussion in the flight as well before we basically started the round. I felt like, after the practice rounds I made, how the hell should I play under par on that course? And then obviously I see the scores from the morning, and they have been good as well, yeah, and like enough, I was now able to shoot under par as well.

Q. There's been plenty of encouraging signs for your game this season. What's been clicking for you so well today?

MARCEL SCHNEIDER: Tough to say right now. I have to look at the stats. But overall I would say I was good off the tee and had good iron shots, good wedges, and the putter was there as well. So, yeah, overall pretty consistent.

Q. 12-under won it last time. What kind of score do you think will be doing it around here? Because there's no way of determining.

MARCEL SCHNEIDER: To be honest, have no clue. I want to be surprised or let me surprise then on Sunday. But I have no clue so far. It's depending a lot on the weather. I mean, if the weather stays like this today, the ball was flying amazing. No wind at all. It's getting low, I guess. If the Irish weather comes back, then obviously the scores will drop a bit. But, yeah, I have no clue.
