Q. A few shots shy?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, look, I feel like, yeah, very close. It's obviously a tournament that I would love to win again and get my hands on again.
I'm a little disappointed now because to be honest, I didn't see scoreboard for a long time out there. There was not many out there and 13-under was still leading when I got to 16 green.
Yeah, I did my best. Had to hit a good putt on 17. Yeah, look, it is what it is. It's been a great week. Everybody here at The K Club has done an unbelievable job. The course is amazing. Weather was great. We had a bit of a storm this afternoon but the crowds were incredible. It's one of the best Irish Opens I can remember.
All in all, it's been a good week for me and a step in the right direction, and hopefully I'll be back to defend my title at Wentworth next week, which is exciting mas well. Like I said at the start of the week, I have an exciting month of golf ahead of me.
Q. Tell us about the eagle, almost an albatross.
SHANE LOWRY: I hit almost a perfect 4-iron, 229 pin. A good one to get there but it was the right shot and I hit a great shot and that got me going. I hit a great putt on the next and just missed, and unfortunately I missed the fairway on the next and had no lie and made bogey there.
But yeah, 15 was a killer, really. It wasn't that bad in the trees there. I just hit a bad second shot. You know, from there on it was a grind, but gave myself a few chances coming in. It's exciting. It's exciting to be up there trying to win your home tournament. It was amazing out there the last few days.
Q. How frustrated to go close but not quite close enough this week?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, look, it's hard but there's so many positives to take away from the week. Irish Opens are tournaments that are generally a struggle in the past and I felt like I was great out there all week this week. Played some great golf. Did everything really well. It's probably one of the best tournaments I've played this year so far and that's kind of nice.
Exciting few weeks of golf ahead of me now and this is a great way to start and hopefully I can build on it from here.
Q. It's a good time to be having some nice form, isn't it?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, well, I would argue that April is a great time to get some good form. Obviously going back to defend at Wentworth next week and got The Ryder Cup in a few weeks; a very exciting few weeks, and it's a great way to start my few weeks over here. Hopefully I can keep it going.
Q. How much are you looking forward to some Ryder Cup prep?
SHANE LOWRY: Hopefully, yeah, I think the weather is okay. Flying this evening. It's going to be exciting to all come together tomorrow. Every team member is there, and all the caddies and vice captains and captain there will be a few staff. There's going to be a lot of people there tomorrow and kind of get the juices flowing for a couple weeks' time. I've never actually seen the course. Looking forward to seeing it. It's an exciting few days ahead.
Q. And the Irish Open, the status where it should be?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, I think the Irish Open is one of the greatest events in the world, and I'm obviously buy aced but this week is one of the best Irish Opens I ever remember. Like everyone at The K Club did an unbelievable job. The course, obviously the weather played a big part. The crowds were incredible. I don't remember, maybe I've got a short memory but I don't remember it being as good as that. I really enjoyed my week.
