Laurie Canter

Quick Quotes

Q. What would you make of your performance over the last couple of days?

LAURIE CANTER: I'm happy. I've sort of stuck with it. Felt like I kept my wits about me because there's obviously a lot of trouble up and around the greens and off the tees, and a lot of blind shots and stuff.

So yeah, I'm happy. I don't feel like I've played lights out but I've played really smart. A couple of good saves ask sort of stuck in there. So under par for 36 around here is good golf.

Q. How would you paint the overall picture of where your game is at?

LAURIE CANTER: Yeah, I haven't been putting well. The last two weeks, I really putted poorly. So one of the guys from Scottie Cameron built me a new putter this week, which he's been chiselling away and thinks it will help me and so far it's working quite well. It's a little easier to line up and kind of when the greens are like this, you have to factor in slope and a bit of wind and all that kind of stuff. It's freed me up a little bit with my stroke. Hopefully that continues on the weekend.

Q. What about your wedges? Obviously that chip-in on 2, wasn't as straightforward as it looked outside the ropes.

LAURIE CANTER: I just tried to get it on the green and moving without getting it going forward, if that makes sense. I had to kind of land it soft and then use the slope on the right. I mean, obviously, I was hoping to chip it in, but I was just trying to putt it in an area and feed down close. It was a massive bonus for sure.

Q. In a good position going into the weekend. Victory at The European Open must have given you a lot of confidence. Where does that putt you mentally looking ahead?

LAURIE CANTER: I think the scoring is going to be really bunched around here. I mean, you've just seen Alex make a big number on 15 to kind of drop out of the lead.

I think this is really going to be a patience test. You need to know the golf course, know where you're hitting it. Me and my caddie have done a lot of homework the last three days. I think we've got a good plan, but we're going to need a good plan, execute well and need a bit of luck. I think if I get those three things and any type of chance on Sunday, I'll feel more confident than I did before I won, put it that way.

There's obviously some pretty good players. Taking Rory on at County Down is going to be a bit of a task. But let's give it a go.
