Quick Quotes

Q. 66 to start your account here at the K Club for the Amgen Irish Open. Does your scorecard reflect how easy it was out there today?

NACHO ELVIRA: No. I mean, I hit the ball pretty decent; like I said, probably the best that I've played in the last two, three months I would say.

But I putted really well and I tried not to put myself in dangerous situations. I was in play off the tee pretty much all day.

And then the greens are soft; very difficult to control the spin. But they are very receptive, so I took advantage and I made a lot of putts.

Q. You made a great run on your back nine, starting on 10. What was where your back nine? Five birdies there.

NACHO ELVIRA: Yeah, I hit a good tee shot on 10 then I always trying to be a little bit away from those pins because they're short sided. I managed to have good speed today and made a lot of putts. Then hit a couple good shots coming in on both par-3s and I made a good birdie on 8 and very happy with the day.

Q. We know what you can do on a golf course. We've seen you with success. What do you need to do more often to be in contention more often when it comes to the weekend?

NACHO ELVIRA: Hit it straight. I haven't been able to hit it very straight lately. When my iron play is very solid, when I'm on the fairway, I manage to score.

But I've been struggling with that lately and hopefully I can keep it on the fairway often.

Q. Tuesday evening was the annual caddies award ceremony. You were there in person. What did you make of it?

NACHO ELVIRA: I was trying to support my caddie and he wasn't there.

So I think it's fantastic. The guys, they're our -- we go to battle with them and it's good to support them as much as we can.
