THE MODERATOR: Welcome, everyone, delighted to be joined by eight a time DP World Tour winner Tyrrell Hatton. Back on home soil this week on the DP World Tour. How much are you looking forward to it?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, looking forward to this week. It's an important week, Ryder Cup qualification starts and hopefully I can play well and get some points on the board.
THE MODERATOR: And Ryder Cup qualification, mentioned it there, does it give you an extra Steph?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, in some ways, it feels like it's come around so quick. Doesn't feel like that long ago that we were at Bethpage, and yeah, now we're trying to qualify for Adare Manor or. Like I said, it was a quick turnaround, but excited for it and hopefully I can make the team again.
Q. Adding this after the cancellation of Michigan, when did you find out?
TYRRELL HATTON: We were fold about, it Michigan weren't going ahead. So as soon as I knew that, it was a case of, I'm going to be home, and this is about an hour and a half away from my house. I was able to play this tournament two years ago, the fact that Ryder Cup points were starting, it seemed like a no-brainer to certainly make the effort to tee it up this week.
Q. So you knew before the start of last week?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, we were aware. All players an LIV were aware before there was an announcement to media, which allowed us to sort of change our schedule.
Q. For yourself personally, have you made any decisions of what next year will look last week?
TYRRELL HATTON: No, to be honest, I haven't thought about that. I've got enough to worry about with playing golf for the rest of the year. I'm make this week, and then Irish Open, Wentworth, Dunhill, Spanish Open, Abu Dhabi, Dubai. I've got a lot of golf still to play and that's what I'm focused on.
Q. Just to be clear, you haven't thought about what your future might look like with regard to LIV?
TYRRELL HATTON: No. I mean, I still have multiple years on my contract left with LIV, and I've got plenty of tournaments this year. So there's nothing, really, to focus on other than the golf.
Q. Should we read anything into your choice of walk-on music last week?
TYRRELL HATTON: Nope.
Q. Nothing?
TYRRELL HATTON: No.
Q. There's been a lot of talk about how guys might get back to the PGA TOUR. Do you have visions of playing on the PGA TOUR in the future, as well?
TYRRELL HATTON: As I said, I have multiple years left on my contract. Under current guidelines, you're banned for a year. Yeah, it's not something to put thought into. Still a long way away.
Q. How many years have you got left on your contract at the moment in?
TYRRELL HATTON: It's multiple years.
Q. The comments about you not looking happy on Sunday --
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, we have done very well as a team over the last few years. It was a little bit of a shame how the LIV season finished in changing it around and Michigan not going ahead and doing the Match Play. Earn who played last year enjoyed the team championship, and they had to change things around this year. It was a little bit different.
I think any time that we won as a team, we've enjoyed it. I was very conscious of the fact that because it was such a late start on Sunday, we teed off at two o'clock, and for guys that are trying to make international flights, it you didn't really have any time to spare after the round, and I think that showed in how quickly we tried to get through some of the media.
So it wasn't really a huge celebration. I ended up making my flight by 15 minutes. I was on a flight to Chicago, and yeah, I wanted to get home Monday. I wanted to get home to my wife and daughter and have a night in my own bed. I think probably everyone in this room travels enough that if you get a night in your own bed, it means a lot.
Yeah, I didn't want to -- I didn't want media to overrun and I just wanted to get out of there and make sure I got back to my family.
Q. Watching you played in Ryder Cup in recent years, could you envisage not being involved in the Ryder Cup over the next ten years?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, obviously I've played the last four, they are extremely hard to make those teams. Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to be in every team possible moving forward.
But when the time comes that I do -- when I'm not playing well enough to make those teams, yeah, it's going to hurt. But hopefully that's in many years down the line.
I don't know what to say to that.
Q. Getting a good start in this week's event would be beneficial. You spoke about how different the golf course is from two years ago, obviously.
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I mean, well, I played the front nine yesterday, and to be honest I was pretty surprised to see how soft the fairways and greens were, and that we've had an incredible summer. I know we don't get the son -- but when we do get the sun, it's too hot. You can see the rough is not as lush as it was a couple years ago, and if you do miss fairways, the ball is probably going to go off line just because of how firm those areas are. But the fairways aren't really running out a huge amount.
So, the greens, yeah, I was surprised to see how soft they were. I don't know if they are going to be able to get them to firm up throughout the week. I think we are probably due some rain which is typical on a tournament week; that's the week we're going to get some rain.
Yeah, the course is in didn't shape, so it's going to be a good week either way.
Q. You've been part of the agreement that was in place for LIV players to be able to play on LIV without sanctions from the DP World Tour. It would seem that that's not going to be in place next year. Do you have any concerns about that?
TYRRELL HATTON: I mean, we still need to finish the season. I will potentially worry about that at the end of -- at the end of the season.
But right now, it's not really a thought process for me.
Q. Ask you about Luke, who is also here this week. Did you play any small part in helping him persuade to do the captaincy for the third time, and what do you think his greatest strength is?
TYRRELL HATTON: No, I mean, that was -- I think that was all Luke and discussions with his family, whether he wanted to do that again.
So he's earned the right to decide. He's been an unbelievable captain for the last two, and yeah, I think he just leaves no stone unturned. The attention to detail was unbelievable. I mean, you could see that from the little things that happened at Bethpage.
Yeah, he's an incredible person. I think whoever the 12 players or at Adare, they are going to have a great captain to play for, and hopefully I'll be one of them.
Q. Can you give an example, when you say "attention to detail," something that you can think of from the last two, how amazing that is, a difference that can make a difference in a big title?
TYRRELL HATTON: Even if you look at the stuff they did around our hotel rooms from changing the bedding to making sure there was zero light coming in. Little things like nice shower gels. That's what I mean, little bits that for the most part people wouldn't think about that or certainly the bedding, changing the pillows, or these things to try and help guys get a good night's sleep and be as recovered as possible going into the next day. Obviously once it starts on Friday, they are unbelievably long days and you need as good as sleep as possible.
Q. With the third time, are expectations bigger now, and taking on that responsibility and pressure again, what does that say about him?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, it's another chance to create history, as well. Yeah, he's obviously very motivated by it. He's done an amazing job the last two. Yeah, it was obviously his decision to do it for a third time. I don't think there would be anyone in this room or in golf that would say that you shouldn't do it again.
But at the same token, yeah, he could have walked away and had obviously two wins, home and away, which is very special. Hopefully Luke and the players that play in 12 months or 13 months' time, it will be three in a row for Luke.
Q. Do you expect there to be a LIV next year, and if there isn't, are you relieved that this tour, guys can come back?
TYRRELL HATTON: I would expect there to be LIV next season. I know they have worked really hard to getting funding stuff in place. So I know it's full steam ahead on that front.
From my side, I've always -- even when I joined LIV, start of, what was it, '24, I've continued to play where I can on the DP World Tour. I think I've shown that over these three years that I'm pretty committed to playing here, and I've made every effort possible to do that.
I don't see why that should change for me in the future.
Q. This week's home for Sir Nick, and you played in Faldo Futures and things like that. How much did that help and shape your development as a player, and both Sir Nick personally?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I did play in the Faldo Series growing up. I remember I ended up going to Brazil for the final. I think I was 15 at the time. I qualified at Walton Heath. I think that was really my first experience going that far away from home. I'm pretty sure my parents weren't on the trip. Obviously we were well looked after. There's a lot of kids in different age groups but that was certainly an experience for me.
I think it's pretty impressive what Sir Nick has done with junior golf and the events he putts on for kids. Yeah, I was fortunate enough to be able to play them, too.
Q. 11 of the 12 players from Rome went to New York. How unlikely is that to happen again, and how many do you think from New York will be Ireland?
TYRRELL HATTON: I think it would be -- it's probably not -- I don't think it would be fair to, like, how many I think because clearly all 12 are qualified at Bethpage are all capable of being on the team again at Adare. I know it was unusual how it kind of followed from Rome into Bethpage.
Yeah, it was an incredible team. As I said, I think, obviously, all 12 are more than capable of being on the team again.
