Q. What a difference a few months make, coming back to Abu Dhabi, just up the road you won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and now you're here representing GB&I in the Team Cup. How do you feel?
PAUL WARING: It's just amazing. I said it in a previous interview. I played solid last year. Obviously the wind was the obviously highlight but a lot of good golf behind that in the year to get me into that position to start off with.
But yeah, what a change I'm going to say one week makes. To obviously now represent my home nation in such a prestigious event leading into a Ryder Cup year, it's a bit of, I'm not going to say a dream come true, but it is, it's a dream come true.
Q. You played representation golf in the past. It has been a few years. You must be buzzing to be back out here.
PAUL WARING: Yeah, it has been a few years but it shows how long I've been on tour since amateur days. You know, what it's amazing to be back in the team room. It's amazing to be around lads that are pulling for you and part of the team, and that bit of team spirit and trying to sort of bring everyone together as a whole and that sort of thing. It's a nice experience again.
Again, we play predominant -- well, it is completely a sport on the own. The only person on the golf course really pulling for you is your caddie. To have another nine lads around you, and their caddies and the backroom staff all wanting you to do your best this week, it's quite an uplifting experience.
Q. And you mention everyone is kind of pulling for each other, and everyone wants to see everyone do well. It's kind of jovial at the moment, but as soon as the first tee shot is hit on Friday, you're really going to be after each other.
PAUL WARING: Oh, yeah, it's a nice, jovial laugh at the moment. It really is. You're saying happy new year to all the lads, Continental Europe. As you say, come the four-balls on Friday, that will all change. Probably won't say a word until Sunday night.
Q. Have you been in contact with Justin ahead of the week?
PAUL WARING: Yeah, I just saw Justin a little bit lack practicing at Jumeirah at my home course that I'm a member of. Had a few chats there. Even yesterday he pulled us in for ten minutes before dinner. Had A ten-minute chat with us and sent us a video this morning about our goals for this morning, when we got on the golf course and especially the Pro-Am. Just those little key reminders about who we are and what we do and our own processes, even though it's a team event, you've still got to go through your process to be the best version of you.
But also, like I say, it almost brings in that embodiment of team aspect, as well, that we can all pull together and help each other even deliver our own processes in the day.
It's been fantastic so far and what an amazing, experienced player he is.
Q. In terms of your schedule for the year, what a great way to start with a team competitive match-play event, Dubai next week, and then going across to the States, I imagine?
PAUL WARING: Yeah, it's going to be very, very different next year. Obviously I've been out on the DP World Tour now for this is my 18th year I think. I've lost more and more hair every year, as you can see. But no, so I'm going to go from obviously, what I'm going to call, I have used this term a few times in speeches I made at the end of the year, this place is my family. I've known these people longer than most people in my life, and I'm going to miss them terribly when I head over to the States.
But what a fantastic new challenge it is for me to start again even at the grand old age of 40 and start a brand new journey. You know, it will keep things very, very fresh for me. It's given me a lot of motivation over the winter to improve certain areas of my game and to get over there and go and compete.
