Quick Quotes

Q. Jordan, you're one of the few returnees for the GB&I team. Is there a little bit more at stake for you this week wanting to get back at the Continental Europeans?

JORDAN SMITH: Yeah, definitely. We want to beat them, as badly as we can. It's great being back. Learned quite a lot from it two years ago, because it was the first time I played team golf since sort of amateur stuff.

Obviously learnt a lot from that week that I can hopefully take into this week. Yeah, looking forward to it.

Q. Are you feeling more comfortable this time around?

JORDAN SMITH: Yeah, definitely. Definitely. I think two years ago, it was all brand new. So wasn't really sure how to act, what to do. Yeah, as I said, because I did it two years ago, I feel a lot more comfortable this year. We're going to beat these guys.

Q. And looking at the guys on your team this year, there's a few who maybe wouldn't have had the opportunity to play with quite a lot but then you look at someone like Aaron who came through in pretty much the same time and you see what he's achieved, and you're both on a team together like this, how is that like for new learning from these guys? Because you pick stuff off of each other.

JORDAN SMITH: Yeah, like you said, me and Aaron came up very similar route. So yeah, I mean, we get on well. I'd happily play with him. Obviously he's a great player. So yeah, to be fair, I'd be happy to play with any of the guys. I'm pretty flexible with who I want to play with and feel like I can gel with anyone.

Q. And in terms of the vibe this week, compared to two years ago, is it kind of similar what you're going through in terms of the arrivals process? Has it kind of elevated this time around?

JORDAN SMITH: I'd probably say it's very, very similar. But like I say, I feel a little more relaxed this time than last time because obviously last time it was all brand new to me and now sort of know what to expect and how things are going to run.

Q. And Tommy is part of the team this time around, not as captain, and now under Justin, how has that been?

JORDAN SMITH: Yeah, it's been good. I feel like he's probably a little more relaxed and he can concentrate on his golf and getting his points up.

But obviously Justin is a great captain. Obviously he's got a lot of experience at these sort of things. So it will be good sort of hearing from him and learning from him.

Q. And as you mentioned, it had been a while since you've played in a team match-play event. How much do you look back on your experiences as an amateur, obviously playing in the Walker Cup in 2013, I think it was, and seeing 12 years later how far you've come as a golfer?

JORDAN SMITH: Yeah, obviously Walker Cup 2013 we got absolutely trounced by the American Team. But at the same time, I learned a lot from that, and I knew exactly what I needed to change before I turned pro. But yeah, obviously we learn from those experiences. Obviously reflect back on obviously two years ago. Learn from them, as well.
