Quick Quotes - TV

Q. Megha, congratulations on an excellent performance. You and Brooke were tied through the first 11 holes. What then allowed you to separate yourself in your game to take command of this match?

MEGHA GANNE: I just tried to play the first 18 like I was playing the golf course and knew the match probably wouldn't get started until the second round, so learning as much as I could about in the course in the first go-round with these pins, and was able to take advantage and play just really solid golf in the second 18.

I can't believe that I'm standing here right now.

Q. When you've been dreaming about winning the U.S. Women Amateur for almost a decade, how difficult is it to just play the golf course?

MEGHA GANNE: It's near impossible. I'm not gonna lie. I was thinking about this trophy the entire day, which makes it really distracting to play golf. I was trying my absolute hardest to think about the shot in front of me.

And Brooke did not make it easy on me. She's an incredible competitor. She showed so much fight. Congratulations to her and her family on an incredible week.

Q. On the 15th hole you had just inside of 20 feet; two putts to win. How would you describe the nerves of actually trying to accomplish that feat?

MEGHA GANNE: I want to say I felt like I was definitely going to two-putt it, and then I left myself a little more work than I thought. I just wanted to make it dramatic, you know. (Smiling.)

Q. You have you're parents here, your coach, Katie. What have they done for you to get you to this spot?

MEGHA GANNE: I -- they're like the definition of unconditional love. My parents, my sister, coach, Katie, and all my family from home, from Stanford, my Stanford coaches.

It genuinely takes a village to make something like this happen, and there is not a day that goes by where I don't feel so much love from people in my life regardless if I am on the golf course or off or winning or losing.

So that's super special. Wins like this are really cool, but having people to celebrate and share that with is even cooler.

Q. Speaking of people to share it with, teammates at Stanford, headed into your senior year. What does winning the U.S. Women's Amateur do for your momentum?

MEGHA GANNE: Really good things. This is likely my last Women's Amateur, so I really, really wanted to get this done. I can't wait for a great senior year with our squad. Hopefully we have another chance at a national title that slipped away from a us this year.

Q. Congratulations on an excellent performance and being the U.S. Women's Amateur champion.

MEGHA GANNE: Thank you.
