Q. A few days ago, you were in the Canadian Am, you didn't know you were going to be here, now you're in the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
Q. Kind of go through your emotions in the last 72 to 96 hours, going from that to here and making the cut and getting through your match.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, it's been -- maybe not, I don't realize it yet, but it's been tiring. I don't know, we're just going to see how far we can go.
Q. Where is your confidence level right now after going wire to wire last week? Getting through a stroke play with a 312-player field with the quality of players that are here is not that easy, and you pulled that off, and then you won a match.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, I'm pretty confident right now. My iron play has been really good over the summer. Just all about hitting the fairways and making a couple putts.
Q. Obviously something has clicked here the last couple -- at least in the last five days, the week, that you're playing this level of golf.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, I'm hitting the driver a lot straighter than I was. I'm keeping the ball in play and giving myself some looks.
Q. Is it intimidating at all for you to feel like this? Or did play last week at the Canadian Amateur against those high level guys put you in a little different frame of mind to get ready for this? Do you think that was a good preparation?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, you come out here, and you see a lot of people who you see on like TV or Instagram and people you know are big names. Then you see them in person, and it's kind of cool to see.
Last week definitely helped me just kind of get used to playing amateur golf instead of junior golf.
Q. Have you heard from your coaches at all? Has Chris texted you at all?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, Chris texted me yesterday and told me to keep it going. So we're going to try to see how long we can do that.
Q. You've got other national team players here, and you're still standing. Henry's in extra holes.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, we have a good team. We've been playing pretty well this year. It's kind of cool that we had six of us and we had two of us make match play.
Q. You didn't trail in your match at all today, did you?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: I don't think so.
Q. Is that a big factor? I don't know how much match play experience you have, but to get up early?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, it's always easier playing with the lead, at least for me, because you kind of have more control over the match. My dad, he always tells me, out of sight, out of mind. So if you get far enough ahead --
Q. Puts you in a good --
TYLER MAWHINNEY: People start thinking about lunch instead of the match.
Q. You weren't thinking about lunch. Maybe now you are.
TYLER MAWHINNEY: I'm thinking about lunch now. I'm pretty hungry. But that's kind of how I roll. That's my mentality.
Q. Was there a key moment in the match where you felt the momentum kept going for you? A par save or a birdie putt that was significant?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Kind of like 4 and 5. 4, I hit the green, and my opponent three-putted, and I two-putted, and I won two straight. Then on 5, I hit it right and ended up tying the hole from a pretty tough spot.
Q. So you were in trouble off the tee?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, and then I had to kind of -- rough back here, and I had to kind of hack it out. I hacked it out pretty well.
Q. What was your putt there?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: I ended up chipping it from the front to a foot and then making par.
Q. So making an up-and-down?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, he ended up two-putting for par, and that kind of kept me going.
Q. Kept the lead, kept you from making a debt in your lead?
TYLER MAWHINNEY: Yeah, I didn't give anything back.
