Quick Quotes

Q. Tell me about the second shot.

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: I hit a decent tee shot. It was kind of straight into the sun this morning so you couldn't really see anything.

Q. Were you trying to drive the green?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: No, I was just trying to get in the short grass and I missed it just a hair right. When I got up there, I felt pretty lucky because it stayed in the edge of the fairway. It was a pretty good enough for me to hit like a cut 8-iron. I was just trying to hit it to the front middle of the green.

Q. What did you have in?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: I had 191, but we were playing about a 160 shot, trying to land it just short. I missed my line just a couple yards right. I couldn't really see it but I heard people start cheering and then I walked down the hill and I saw it go in and everybody's hands go up.

Q. That explains because they replayed it on USA, and yeah, it went in and you were -- people are cheering and you're standing there looking in the sun, you couldn't see it, and then you had a delayed reaction. What did that feel like?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: It was a cool feeling. You never really draw up your first hole that way. You kind of try to go fairway, green, two-putt and get out of there. But yeah, it was really cool. God is good.

Q. Is it actually harder to go tee off on 2 because the adrenaline is going like that? What's it like on the second tee after you do that?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: It kind of feels like a fresh round starting again. Like I kind of had the same first tee jitters as I did on hole 1, just because I didn't get up there, I didn't hit any putts, I didn't really finish the hole, I kind of just picked my ball up out of the hole and then it was time to go to 2. It was pretty strange.

Q. On your first putt on 2, you might have been going, I don't know, I haven't putt yet.

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: Yeah, I had an uphiller thankfully so I didn't have to think too much about the speed.

Q. Did you hear anybody from the crowd say anything crazy as you walked to the green?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: No, just a lot of people cheering, a lot of Go Bucks, O-H. I'm good with all that stuff.

Q. When did you find out that you were the first to accomplish this feat at Oakmont in an Open?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: Just now, my wife just told me.

Q. After you put your hands up, did you do any more celebrating, or was that it?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: I just pointed up to heaven above, thank God, because I only hit the shot, he let it go in.

Q. Have you ever started a round by holing a shot from the fairway?

MAXWELL MOLDOVAN: I actually have, Big Ten Championship my freshman year at Crooked Stick I made a wedge. That was a lot easier shot than the one I made on 1 today.
