Quick Quotes

Q. Would you welcome a little rain to soften it up?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, you know me, I'm sick just like everyone else. I don't mind if it's playing tough.

Q. Do you let yourself think that you might be sitting on the winning score right now?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Not on Thursday, no. Way too soon.

Q. Are you surprised about the scoring? 4-under out here in this situation?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's Thursday. I just told J.J., incredible round, nice playing. Good luck the rest of the way.

Q. You made some crazy par saves out there. When you're out of position like that, how do you get yourself to be able to I can still dig out a par?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: I wouldn't call myself a rookie anymore, so I've had enough of these moments where -- 9, I hit a really nice drive and knew it was just a hair too far left and couldn't even see my ball there in the hazard. Happy to get it out, and then hit it to tap-in.

It felt ho-hum, but in my head, I was like, probably would take a 5 from the fairway and move on.

Q. Was there a particular shot or bounce or anything that felt just really unlucky today more than anything else?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: No, I don't think so. No. I think 12 is starting to become interesting. I thought I hit a decent drive, ended up somewhere in the bunker there, which was kind of weird. José and Bryson, they hit these really high drives up to the right and they kind of hung in there.

Q. Bryson was surprised that he stayed in a better spot than you.

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: He just flew it further, so he probably didn't catch that severe downslope. My ball rolled through the rough and first cut to get to where it went. A few weird things like that, but walking up on the tee, you can tell it's going to bounce somewhere.
