Quick Quotes

Q. Tell us what this weekend and everything went to you, and not just you but you and your family?

MATT VOGT: Yeah, it's awesome. Very disappointed in my play, but this is the toughest test in golf. This is place is just so brutal. It just beats you up. I hope to take a lot from the experience. I don't think there's a tournament or a golf course that could be harder or honestly for me could feel more pressure than I did this week. I don't think it could get any tougher. I hope to build on it from a golf standpoint and from a life standpoint I'll have this memory forever coming back to Oakmont for an Open. I'll cherish it for sure.

Q. How special was it being back here at Oakmont and your local course where you worked?

MATT VOGT: Yeah, the coolest thing or one of the coolest things was just how many members that I either used to caddie for, have stayed in touch with, new members I met this week. It's really neat. You feel like you're a part of something bigger with Oakmont, USGA and golf, at least that's how I felt this week.

Super special. There's no other way to put it.

Q. You just had a pretty cool moment right here with a youngster who's a sophomore at Central Catholic High School. You were giving him some advice. When you were at that age did you ever think you'd be at Oakmont giving advice to somebody who wants to be you?

MATT VOGT: No, no. Like I've mentioned a couple times this week, I feel like I'm at that point in life where you can start to pass on some advice, so it's neat to see -- it's been one of the coolest parts about being inside the ropes and outside the ropes this week is seeing youngsters like that, to just be able to hopefully make a good impression on them and offer some advice. So no, I imagined that in my wildest dreams. I'm glad you said that because it makes me feel a little bit better about shooting in the 80s again today.

Q. The thoughts on the redesign? You saw a ton of rounds here before and now this is a whole new look. What were your thoughts on the redesign of the course?

MATT VOGT: Yeah, I thought some of the restoration stuff was awesome. The new pins that they can find on the greens, the -- really there's not a bad change that's been made, and it's all so subtle that very few people I'm sure even walking around who were here in the '16 Open would notice the differences. There's some maybe like the green of 13 that's pretty noticeable. But they're great. I don't know if it makes the course harder, easier. It's still brutal. But I was impressed. I really liked them.

Q. What's it like to go from relative unknown to major celebrity in just a few days, especially among the Western Pennsylvania contingent here? What is it like to go through that?

MATT VOGT: It's been a crazy week. I hope I can -- I don't know, I hope I made everybody proud. It's been strange, honestly. But again, I've tried to use this platform that I have, call it temporary, to praise God, to be honest, to bring some joy to the city, to inspire. That's about all I can do when that happens.

Yeah, super memorable week, and ready to get back to my routine a little bit for sure, if I can be honest.
