Quick Quotes

Q. Tell us today about your experience.

BRIANNA DO: I mean, it was awesome. I mean, I grew up not too far from here, and to be able to hit the very first tee shot for -- on the very first hole, I actually didn't realize it when I got my tee time that that was like what I was going to be doing.

So a few people said how cool it is to be the first off of Riv in my home state and hometown. It's funny, because I hit a great tee shot and I felt my heart racing afterwards. I like checked my heart rate, beat on my watch and it was like 145. I was like, obviously I was a little nervous, but I kept it together out there. Didn't play as well as I was hoping, but we kept it together.

Q. That's great.

BRIANNA DO: Yeah.

Q. Very exciting as a Bruin, right?

BRIANNA DO: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Very cool. So you had a birdie on 8. Walk me through your approach. How did it go?

BRIANNA DO: That hole plays a little long for me. I am not one of the longer players out here. I hit it up the right side of the fairway. I believe I had 191 to the pin and we were just trying to land something like ten on because that green releases quite a bit, and I hit a 4-hybrid pretty good at the center. Probably ended up just below pin high and I had like a 30-footer. My caddie/boyfriend and I kind of read it perfectly and I made the 30-footer for birdie.

Kind of needed it at that time. I hit a good shot into No. 9. I had like seven feet and it but it was a big break and I missed it. But, yeah.

Q. Amazing. Tell us a little bit about how the course is playing so far.

BRIANNA DO: It's not too crazy difficult. I thought it was going show some teeth just from the practice round. USGA did move some tees on the front nine to kind of play with the pins and the wind.

So, I mean, I saw Gaby was at 5-under. I can see it out there, you know. So my 3-over, I grinded it out but definitely could have been better.

Q. And knowing that, what's the mentality approaching tomorrow?

BRIANNA DO: I think a lot of the same. Just kind of clean it up a little bit. It wasn't like I did anything terrible. It was just not enough birdies, you know.

We're used to playing courses that give a few more birdies. But it's major week so birdies are going to be hard to come by.
