Q. Karis Davidson, 2-under 69. Jump back it Sunday briefly. First alternate and here on site. Talk us through what that day was like.
KARIS DAVIDSON: Well, I just kind of came over from Australia with the mindset of you know what, even if I don't get in I'll stay with the other Aussie girls and watch a bit of golf at Riv and hopefully get a practice round round the place.
Obviously I was really happy when I got the call, yeah.
Q. Were you watching and did you know the scenario that needed to happen to get into the field?
KARIS DAVIDSON: No, but my caddie knew and some friends back home researched it so they knew, but I was just waiting for the official call.
Q. You got a look at Riv this week. What were your first reactions to the course?
KARIS DAVIDSON: It's so cool. It's very iconic. The par-3 with the bunker on the green and the 18th hole. I've watched Adam Scott. Seems to be one of his favorites holes.
Yeah, it's really cool, yeah.
Q. You came out and played really well. Reaction to today's round?
KARIS DAVIDSON: Yeah, I'm really chuffed. Yeah, played solid. Holed some good putts. Also missed a couple silly ones. My concentration was not the best. On the back nine I would say I lost a bit of energy.
Q. So kikuya, kind of a theme that Aussies have a little bit of an advantage given that you have some experience with it. How do you approach it and do you feel like this felt a little familiar, homey even?
KARIS DAVIDSON: Well, I live on the Gold Coast and it's not that type of grass. I think in Melbourne I've played maybe once or twice, but at the start of the week I sent my coach a voice note and I said, any tips for this grass?
Yeah, so maybe some of the other Aussies for sure, but not much for me.
Q. When do you remember first watching the U.S. Women's Open, and can you describe Karrie Webb as influence on your career?
KARIS DAVIDSON: Yeah, so for me, I guess I've always just watched the winning moments of the U.S. Open. You know, when like, I mean, Paula Creamer holed that massive putt that one time and Michelle Wie. Yeah, it's just as you fun to watch the winners.
Yeah, obviously Karrie, she's here this week. We're going to dinner with her on Saturday, which will be really good to catch up. Yeah, she's obviously influenced my career so much moving to Australia at young age. She just gives everyone such an opportunity to improve and go where you want to go with your golf.
Q. What was your coach's tip on the kikuya?
KARIS DAVIDSON: Well, it was mainly for chipping. On Monday I was like, this stuff is so unpredictable, so he just said, make sure you've got speed through the ball and don't get too steep on it, because it can go under it. Yeah, that was his tip.
Q. The current players, Minjee, Hannah, Grace, all seem to be so close. Have you leaned on them a lot for advice on the Tour and what been some of the best nuggets they've given you?
KARIS DAVIDSON: I mean, off the golf course we don't talk much about golf to be honest. I've definitely asked Steph in the previous years for some advice. Hannah is just so composed, and obviously Gracie is amazing too.
Just being with them I suppose. I'm surrounding myself with good people. I think that's the main thing there for sure.
