Q. That was a pretty big scalp you just took out; the guys were the defending champs and probably got about 150 USGA championships between the two of them. Did you know much about them before you played them?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, I actually played Scott at Bandon in the first round, so I kind of knew a lot about him and knew what he was about, I guess, and obviously both of them are great guys and great competitors, great players with awesome resumes, and it was cool to play with them today.
Q. You played them in the Amateur last year?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, at Bandon.
Q. Did you beat him?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, I did.
Q. He doesn't want to see you anymore. You guys were down most of the day. I guess you kind of tied it up on 15; is that right?
PALMER JACKSON: Yeah, Davis hit a 3-wood from about 245 to three feet, which was a pretty impressive birdie. Yeah, it was a battle all day. We dug ourselves in a pretty big hole to start, and we knew against them we couldn't afford another mistake. We were very pleased to finish how we did.
Q. And then you won 16; what happened there?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, he hit it on the ground with a 3-wood --
Q. Did he drive it?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, he drove the green.
PALMER JACKSON: It was 280 --
DAVIS CHATFIELD: 280 a little into the fan, it was playing long and he just hit it right in the middle, perfect shot.
Q. So two-putt birdie?
PALMER JACKSON: Two-putt birdie, yeah.
Q. You close it out here, didn't really have to putt?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, luckily it wasn't that stressful.
Q. It's not going to get any easier for you guys. You've got another past champion tomorrow in Nathan Smith and Todd White.
PALMER JACKSON: That's going to be a good match. I'm actually from Pittsburgh, and I've played with Nathan a good bit, so we're good friends, but it'll be pure competition tomorrow. It'll be fun.
Q. Little luck of the Irish today maybe?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, always.
Q. How many USGA championships have you guys played in?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: I've played in three U.S. Ams and this is my first four-ball.
PALMER JACKSON: I've played in three Ams and three Juniors.
Q. Were you guys at regionals this year?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, yeah, we were last week. We just missed out on nationals. That's kind of why we ended up here, to be honest with you. But yeah --
Q. How close were you guys to advancing?
PALMER JACKSON: We missed by five shots.
Q. There's a few guys in that boat this week. Some guys playing, some guys taking it as a consolation prize, but obviously if you win this thing you get into the Amateur.
PALMER JACKSON: That's kind of why we're here. Yeah, we don't want to qualify.
Q. For the two of you, do you play much four-ball?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: No, together this is our first four-ball event.
Q. You qualified last fall; is that right?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: We were exempt.
Q. Both in the top 400?
DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yes.
