THE MODERATOR: We're here with Ryanne Jackson, our 2023 women's overall champion. How does it feel to be back as the defending champ?
RYANNE JACKSON: It feels good to be back. Excited to be here. The USGA so far has done a great job of hosting us once again, so excited to be at a new course.
Q. How is it different than Pinehurst the last couple years?
RYANNE JACKSON: I think there's a lot more trouble out on this course. Honestly, Pinehurst wasn't very appealing to me visually, so was kind of excited to have a new experience here. But I think there's a lot more trouble that you can get into off the tee especially.
Q. The winners this year, what do you think they're going to have to do well at this golf course?
RYANNE JACKSON: I think a lot of it is going to be getting off the tee well and then obviously, as always, putting.
Q. What about this week overall makes it so special? You're here with a lot of your friends and just the adaptive golf community. How special is it to be here in general?
RYANNE JACKSON: Yeah, really excited to be back, especially with a lot of the state events, there's a lot of players who aren't able to attend those, so to have an event where all the best players in the United States and overseas are able to come together, it's really exciting.
Q. Obviously your game was pretty sharp last year. How are you feeling this year? Are you feeling pretty confident coming in?
RYANNE JACKSON: No, I don't feel like I have a whole lot of confidence coming in ever. I've played a lot more golf this year than I did last year. Maybe not necessarily practicing, but played in a lot more tournaments.
Q. Last night it was pretty funny at the players' dinner, you said when you finished up your college career you were going to throw your clubs in the lake and not touch them ever again. Thinking back then to now, you're defending champion of a USGA event, how surreal is that, and are you glad you didn't throw those clubs in the lake?
RYANNE JACKSON: Definitely is not something I ever expected to be able to consider myself a USGA champion, but definitely excited that the clubs did not go into a lake or didn't sit in the garage for too long.
