Q. How did you get hooked up with Ramon after all the stuff you went through last week, and how has that gone?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I've been working with Ramon for probably 11, 12 years now on my putting and short game. He was kind of a plan B in the books. I didn't really -- I guess Joe Etter was going to caddie for me. Obviously Eric was going to hopefully get over for this week. That didn't work out. Then Davis Thompson got in kind of last minute to the Open, so Joe couldn't caddie for me again.
Ramon was nice enough to come over from Spain and caddie for me. He's been caddying for Abe on the LIV Tour. He's caddied for me before in Canada years ago, so he knows my game probably as well as anybody on my team. He was the perfect guy to come caddie this week.
Q. How tough is that, for as long as you've been with Eric, for him not to be here?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it's tough. Every player or caddie has their different cadence of how they like things. Luckily for Ramon, he's been working with me for so long and watched me play, watched me hit balls, so he kind of knows what I like, and I feel like we kind of got that right out of the gate.
These practice rounds really worked on it, and very comfortable with how he was delivering the information.
But it is different. You get so used to -- Eric has been caddying for me for eight, nine years now, be and you get so used to having that one guy of how he does everything, from little stuff of where he puts the Sharpies and markers and he always has tees in his pocket and just little stuff. You get used to that, but Ramon did awesome today.
Q. Have you been corresponding with him at all this week, Eric?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I have. I've been texting him earlier in the week. I'm sure he'll give me a big pump-up text after today's round. I'm sure he's watching every shot, and disappointed that he's not here. But hopefully we can get it worked out for next year.
Q. How do you feel about your mindset overall for links golf right now? How do you feel you're performing with your mindset?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, you've got to have a lot of patience. I didn't realise it was six hours until just looking at that clock on 18. Playing with Tony and Nick is pretty easy. They're an easy pairing for me. Just had a good time out there. You've got to have a lot of patience. Going to have some waits on tees, drivable holes. Par-5s were reachable. 11 was a tough tee shot. You've just got to have a lot of patience.
Q. Where is your momentum coming in from the previous week last week to coming here? Why are you playing so well and what have you done so well today?
HARRIS ENGLISH: That's why I come over and play the Scottish is to get used to links golf. I played really well last week. I didn't have the Sunday that I wanted, but I felt like my game was sharp and I did what I needed to do to get ready for this week. Played well at the Travelers, so I've had some really good finishes lately.
Was looking forward to coming to this week, and immediately after playing the course, I really liked it. I loved how it frames the tee shots and you get to see a lot more trouble than you would on a normal links course.
