Sandy Scott

Q. 2-under to start your campaign here in the Amateur Championship. Talk us through your round today at St Annes Old Links?

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, I was in pretty good control of the round. I never really got myself into that much trouble. I think I managed my way around the golf course really well to just get myself up close to the green. I know that I'm a good putter from long distance, so pace putting was key for me today to save a lot of pars. But took a couple chances, and it was a solid round.

Q. Talk us through the chances. What holes were they and what exactly was the chances?

SANDY SCOTT: I birdied two to get off to a good start. I hit a wedge really close. I birdied the last par 5 there to finish off a nice round and had a couple other short hole chances. Yeah, it was just a lot of pars and steady golf.

Q. You must be really especially pleased with your performance today, come back from some injury troubles. What does it mean to you to have got that round under your belt and in the books?

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, I mean, I'm just so happy to be back. There was a time where I think I was going to play golf again let alone competitive golf. So I'm just really grateful to be out on the course again and yeah, it's just fantastic really.

Q. So how recently has the injury sort of started to come along where you feel like you can be back competing again?

SANDY SCOTT: Around March time I started playing golf again after my second surgery, and it took maybe another month and a half to be able to be thrown into a competitive environment in college golf. I managed to get about five tournaments under my belt, in terms of the injury, feeling better, playing better. It just kept getting better each week.

I turned a corner about a month ago with performance and I felt pretty good since then. So yeah, it's been a slow process but at the same time, I see improvements each week, so that's fun.

Q. Can you quickly talk us through the injury?

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, so I had a wrist problem. It's always ulnar impaction. Basically the gist of it is the forearm bone is trapping the ligaments against the wrist bones and causing some damage. Most of that is done through golf.

And so I had two surgeries and I got a real clear idea after the second one what with a it was and a clear dying know cities and what to kind. So I've made tweaks here or there to help minimise basically what's causing the pain and the damage, so yeah, it's just gone like that since I had my last surgery last September.

Q. At the start of the week coming into The Amateur Championship, what was your goal and how does today's round alter or affect that?

SANDY SCOTT: You know, expectations, I haven't really had any since I started coming back. I've just been so happy to be back. I've really just been playing really freely in that sense and sticking to my processes and stuff which is a little different than how I would normally approach it but it's such a unique circumstance. It's worked well for me the last couple months and so yeah, I'm just continuing on that path.

Q. You have your younger brother, Calum, out here, he's also 2-under. Is there a little bit of sibling rivalry, do you feel?

SANDY SCOTT: Oh, no, I'm pulling for him. I definitely want to beat him. I want him to play well but not as well as me.
