Flash Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Brooks Koepka is with us now at the 108th PGA Championship. Brooks, 1-under today. What can you tell us about your opening round?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Struck it beautifully. I thought I drove it -- drove it okay. But the iron play has been really good, striking it exactly how I want to, flighting it the way I want to. Then putting is just -- everything is just the same as it has been.

Q. Regarding last week in Myrtle, you seemed to echo that positivity. Is that rolling over to Thursday? How do you feel about your chances here the rest of the week?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, I feel good. Every round just seems to be the worst I can shoot. Putter is absolutely horrendous. Ball striking is absolutely phenomenal. That's been the story of the year. Hopefully we can figure out a way to turn this around.

Q. (No microphone.)

BROOKS KOEPKA: I don't know. I've never been late. I mean, I do think -- I don't know. That's such a tough question. I don't know. It definitely should be a shot at least, maybe two. What is it, two now? I don't know. Somebody else can make that decision.

Q. Brooks, you talked last week about after your 64, about just having fun. Not related to the score, but just having fun in the game. Putting aside and that aside, what has brought that back this year? You just said it's been at least a year since you've had this much fun and excitement. Has it been a gradual thing? Did it all of a sudden hit you being back on the PGA TOUR? What has been the reason?

BROOKS KOEPKA: We had a lot of family issues go on last year. It was noted, and that took a toll on me. It definitely took a toll on Jenna. That was kind of tough to deal with.

Yeah, I mean, at home it's in a much better place. It's easier to come out to work when everything at home lines up. Everything's a lot better. Last year was just difficult personally with what was going on off the golf course, nothing to do on it. It was just off.

So yeah, just being in a better place. It's exciting. It's a little bit of a fresh start as well. I think that's a big piece of it. Yeah, when all that kind of lines up, it makes it enjoyable to be out here.

Q. Brooks, I don't think you were asked this last week, I'm sorry if you were, but given your association with LIV previous to now and the news that just came out two weeks ago about the PIF, how much did that catch you off guard even or by surprise what's happening over there?

BROOKS KOEPKA: I don't have any involvement with it anymore, so I don't pay any attention to it. I'm kind of in my own little world, and I'd like to stay there. It's in the past, and I'm on the PGA TOUR now, and I'm just focused on how I can figure out how to make this putter work.

Q. Have you had these kind of issues in the past with the putter? How have you addressed them? Are you feeling more comfortable with the changes of equipment? If you changed equipment at all and the ball with the changeover from leaving Srixon?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Everything feels fine. I like the way I'm striking it. I like the way, the flight, the spin, everything's been the same way for the past couple months.

Yeah, putter change, I feel comfortable with the putter. A little bit of speed, a little bit of confidence. That kind of sums it up. It's just been miss after miss. It's tough to kind of build any confidence when you're not putting well.
