Q. Nelly Korda with us now at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Nelly, even par today. What are what are thoughts on the third round?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I'm happy it. It's brutal out there when it comes to the setup of the golf course, wind conditions, everything. I'm very happy with even par.
Q. What did you tell yourself after the first couple holes mentally in terms of being patient?
NELLY KORDA: It's going to be a long day. (Smiling.) Yeah. I mean, I think we played a two ball in like six hours. That's just a little ridiculous, but, what can you do?
Just told myself to be patient.
Q. What can they do though? What changes would be made to make it faster out there?
NELLY KORDA: I don't know. I just think with the weather it's just too firm. The hole locations are kind of in almost impossible positions where not many people are hitting the greens, so obviously it's going to take a lot more time.
With it blowing 30 miles an hour, it's just hard, yeah.
Q. When you're waiting for 20 minutes on 7 and maybe another 20, 30 minutes on 18, how do you mentally stay patient and not get flustered with the wind whipping, you're hot? How do you stay present?
NELLY KORDA: Well, there is nowhere to go, so just patience. I mean, I feel like I've -- we've had lots of situations in the past like year where like we've had to wait a long time, so unfortunately kind of used to it, which you don't want to be used to it, especially in a two ball Saturday of a major.
You don't want to be spending 20 minutes and getting up to the next tee and then you're 15 minutes and getting up to the next tee and it's another 15 minutes.
There is just like no momentum in it. So I don't know. I mean, you just kind of have to go with it. Everyone is going through it, everyone is dealing with it, everyone is playing the same golf course.
I think the wind was gusty throughout the majority of the day, so you just kind of have to be really creative and really patient.
Q. How does this wind compare to what we saw at AIG last year? That round was what a lot of people said is the hardest round of golf they've ever played. How does this slightly compare to that?
NELLY KORDA: It's such a different golf course. That's a links golf course so it's bound to happen in a sense. Like you're mentally getting ready for that.
But it's such a fluffy bermuda where you can't run up your chips, let's say. So you're flying your chips on a downwind, downhill, and it's just shooting off. You're trying to get as much spin on a fluffy bermuda, which sometimes you kind of duff it and it comes up short.
So it's just a very different setup. But overall, I mean, I'm happy with even par. There are some gettable holes. I mean, there is 7 which is reachable; has been reachable every day.
Then they moved up 15, yeah.
So there are some gettable holes. Overall, you can kind of never just take a breather out there. It's like everything is super demanding, especially with this wind. I thought it was windy yesterday and then we played today and it was even windier.
Q. Got up and down from the bunker on the last hole there. Really nice bunker shot. Does that give you any sort of momentum rolling into tomorrow?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, for sure. I'm sitting at 2-over par and I think I'm inside the top 10, right? So just going to take a shot at a time and see what the weather is going to bring and what the golf course is going to be set up.
I mean, the rough -- there is such a big premium on hitting it into the fairway this week because it's not that long but it's so thick. So just making sure that you're dialing in to your targets and just trusting that the wind is going to gust at that time and doesn't lay down.
Q. Looks like it's so windy even the tape from your neck came off.
NELLY KORDA: Oh, it did. Yeah, every single day by like the 8th hole I just ripped it off. I'm like, there is just to point.
Q. How do you prepare yourself physically and mentally for tomorrow?
NELLY KORDA: Just chill, know it's going to play hard no matter what, and just take it a shot at a time. We'll see.
Q. If you're trying to chase, do you want it to play tough? I mean, I know by now it's been really hard.
NELLY KORDA: Uh-huh.
Q. Would you rather it be like this if you're coming from behind?
NELLY KORDA: I mean, yeah, I know I'm coming from behind, but I never want to have that mentality of trying to chase because then you're pressing too much.
So I literally just focus on what is right in front of me. If that opportunity comes about where I can be a little bit more aggressive.
But what other girls are doing or what the course is playing like or what the conditions are like is out of my control. What I can control is being 100% prepared on the shot that's in front of me and that's what I'm going to do.
