E. RYBAKINA/C. Gauff
5-7, 6-2, 6-2
Q. Talk about your match with Coco tonight.
ELENA RYBAKINA: Well, it was again a very tough battle. I'm happy that it went my way once more, and hope that I can recover and play well tomorrow too.
Q. Leading into the match, you were talking about how once Coco gets her serve going, it can be difficult to stop. How did you figure that out in the final set?
ELENA RYBAKINA: She served really well the first set. It was pretty close the first one, and then I feel like on my serve I rushed a little bit in the end.
I knew that I need to start straight away the second set well. I'm happy that I did couple good returns, and then things turned around. She also started to feel a bit of pressure, some double-faults. Yeah, I just kept on going, and I'm happy that I won.
Q. Seemed like you got stronger and stronger as the match went on. Considering you had a three-setter last night and Coco had the night off, how were you able to do that?
ELENA RYBAKINA: I guess the adrenaline and so many hours on the court helped a bit. In the third set also, few moments I felt like I was just swinging, and some crazy return at 30-all, and it went my way.
So, I got my opportunities, I took them. I was trying not to think about the score, just going a point at a time. Also on the serve, I was just picking the targets. Even if she knew where I'm serving, I was just going for it, and it worked today.
Q. The first set it felt like you were causing problems for her serve, but just couldn't break through. Was that a confidence boost anyway, just knowing that you're right there, and it was just a matter of having that breakthrough?
ELENA RYBAKINA: Yeah, I was close all the games in the first set. As I said, I feel like I just rushed by the end of this first set.
Definitely I knew that I'm doing the right things, and it just a matter of couple of points. So, in the end, that's what happened in the second set.
Then, after winning the second, you get of course confidence, and I just kept on going.
Q. How do you recover from this? Obviously not a ton of time before the final. You must be tired.
ELENA RYBAKINA: Yes, I am. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, but I definitely give my best and, yeah, let's see. Most important is to get some sleep.
Q. Following Iga's run throughout Toronto, she seems to be picking up some form. Your thoughts on playing her tomorrow?
ELENA RYBAKINA: She has been playing well, and it's going to be again a very difficult match. We know each other so well. We played so many times.
In my case, I feel like it's more again about the recovery after so many hours on the court, and bringing as much energy as I can.
