Jaguars 31, Falcons 0
Q. Could you talk about how tough it was going against their ones and moving the ball here today?
TAYLOR HEINICKE: Yeah. Obviously we knew it was going to be a challenge, but I think the guys had a really good mindset going into the game. It's a great opportunity for us to go against ones and kind of put some film out there and see what we can do.
I thought we made every moved the ball pretty well. We got to midfield two, three times. We just stalled out. Again, like you said, to do that against those ones, gives you a little bit of confidence. We just wish we could have put some points up there.
Q. Taylor, you had more than 40 starts in the NFL, and you were here last year. You've been honest about what's happening at the quarterback position. After tonight how do you feel where you could be the third quarterback on the roster or you could be somewhere else in the NFL?
TAYLOR HEINICKE: Yeah, it's one of those stressful times. It's really the worst time of the NFL for all these guys. Just kind of knowing where you are going to be.
For me personally I did everything I could throughout OTAs and training camp. When I got the reps, I try to go out there and make the most of it. When I wasn't in there, I was trying to help Kirk and Mike any way I could.
I would love to be a part of the Falcons. I think this is probably the best roster I've been a part of when you kind of look at it from top to bottom. I think Raheem is building something special here, and I would love to be a part of that.
That being said, who knows what's going to happen? I think cut day is, what, on Tuesday. We'll find out from tonight until then. Again, I would love to be an Atlanta Falcon. If not, I just love the game of football. I just want to keep playing football, so yeah, that's the journey.
Q. In all the camps, you have been through this in various places, what has this one been like? What do you think about this team? What stood out, in anything, about this group?
TAYLOR HEINICKE: Yeah, this was a different camp than most. I think Raheem had a different approach to it, one that's different than anything I've been through.
Obviously it works for him. Maybe he learned that from L.A. or something. But we brought in Simmons. We brought in Judon. Kind of going out there and looking at practice every day, those guys came out and worked. There's a lot of times we're in full pads two, three times in a row, and guys were sore, and they came out and kept working.
So I'm sure every guy in that locker room will tell you, it was a little rough, but we got better every day. You could see it. Again, you see a lot of special things during practice, during camp. Those are the things that make me want to stay here.
Q. On the fourth and three and you go deep, what did you see on this side to make you go deep where you thought Casey could be this guy and you are trying to get points, of course?
TAYLOR HEINICKE: So we had a little motion come in, and we pretty much had a shallow for No. 3, like a little five-yard in for No. 2. Based on how they played that motion, it looked like they just bumped. It was like a cover three.
For that concept you don't really like cover three and how they're supposed to play it. I saw Casey one-on-one back side and thought I would give him a chance. Of course, I go back and look at the iPad, and their linebacker kind of messed up, so that No. 2 was open.
Again, it's little things like that. You kind of just keep working on, seeing more of that on film. Then maybe make the right decision next time.
Q. Just curious, you being a veteran, what is your overall thought on a No. 3 quarterback? Last year the NFL saw the most quarterbacks in the history of the league hit the field. Just your overall thoughts on the position of third quarterback on a roster?
TAYLOR HEINICKE: Yeah, I think it's good for the NFL. You go back I think it was two years ago. NFC championship game, and the two quarterbacks got hurt. You don't want to watch a big-time game and not have a quarterback in there.
Great example from last year was Case Keenum. He was third string in Houston. I think he had to come in for a game or two. He's a 12th year vet, I believe. He came in and did great.
So I think the more quarterbacks you can have, it's good because there are a lot of injuries. The NFL stands for 'not for long.' I think 100% of the guys get injured. Again, I kind of always point back to that playoff game two years ago. You don't want to see receivers or running backs play quarterback.
