An Interview with:

William Byron

THE MODERATOR: We're going to get started with our post-race press conferences with a member of the Championship 4, and that's William Byron.

Q. Walk me through that sequence there. You get the lead. You did one lap on your tire. Did you think you had enough there to hold those guys off, or were you hoping for something else?

WILLIAM BYRON: I did, but just as good as they got through 1 and 2, it was just like, man, now they're right on me. I think going into the restart, I thought I had enough of a buffer and I didn't really feel like one lap on tires that was that big a deal. I don't really -- I don't think it was.

I just think that they were fast on the short run all weekend, and that was kind of our struggle. Like we were decent throughout the run, but couldn't really take off with a ton of speed. It wasn't a huge surprise, but they were on me a little bit quicker than I thought they would be.

Q. What is it with Joey in these situations where he rises up? And I don't know if you can really even quantify that, but it seems like when he's got to find a way, he's able to do that. I wonder as a competitor what you see from him in these situations.

WILLIAM BYRON: I think their team does a really good job, and Joey doesn't make any mistakes and knows what's important to focus on. I would just compliment Penske as a whole. They had the two best cars today, and it was really a battle between them throughout the day. I was just hoping that they would make some mistakes and get up in there.

But yeah, I think Joey just did a good job executing and they had a good sequence to restart where they did.

THE MODERATOR: William, thank you so much. Congrats on a great season.
