Q. All right, here with Brittany after her first round victory here on Wednesday. Looked like a battle out there.
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah.
Q. Can you just talk about today's match against Nelly.
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah, I mean, the weather was so hard and the golf course is already hard without the weather. I mean, I just tried to stay patient and just stay in the present and focus on one shot at a time.
Yeah, that was basically it.
Q. Were there any parts in the match today that you felt like you kind of picked up some momentum, you had some key shots that really motivated you to keep going in the match?
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah, a few of them. After hitting it in the water on 9 I chipped in which felt really nice, but I missed a few putts on the back. But I hit a really solid shot coming in on 15. Just felt really good coming off the club face. I made a really good two putt to win that hole.
On 16 I reached that green in two, and I think those two shots really felt good. I was 2-down so I just felt like that was kind of a turning point for me to keep the match going.
Q. Last time you played here was 2022 I believe. What was it like coming back here and practicing the past couple days, kind of remembering how hard it was out here?
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah, I mean, I think the first two years I played the weather was much nicer. I love this golf course. It's hard. It makes you think. You definitely have to have really good course management out there. Which I really like those golf courses.
I think it suits my game versus get up and hit it anywhere. I enjoy playing here.
Q. Where would you say your game is at after your break? Are you 100% back or where are you at?
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: I don't really feel 100% golf-wise, but strength-wise I worked really hard this past year trying to get my strength back, my speed back.
I played the Epson event last July and I was carrying my driver like 195. To come back to Arizona and this event and to see the ball carrying 220, 225, for me, it felt really good. Like my hard work paid off.
Golf-wise I think I just need rounds and reps to get into a rhythm again.
Q. Do you feel like all the forces were against you, that you need reps at this point and put you on a tough course and give you the tough conditions and then throw the No. 1 player in the world at you all in the first day?
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah, you know, it's match play so anything can happen. I feel like I've had a lot of success in match play and I love playing this format. I just knew if I just stayed patient and played my game, I might have a chance.
To end up in a tie was a win for me. I mean, Nelly is a great player. Obviously world No. 1 and a great person. It was a lot of fun out there.
I felt like I got to watch her play, too, and just see where my game is too and what I need to improve on.
Q. Last question: Can you talk about the confidence you are gaining from this week in match play? You're not seeing any numbers on the scorecard. Just feeling the shots like you said out there. Can you speak to that?
BRITTANY ALTOMARE: Yeah, it's good. It's nice to be able to hit those shots under pressure when I was a couple down, which made my feel really good. I haven't played that much. Haven't really been in contention in a long time, so to have those kind of nerves and adrenaline feeling and to be able to pull some of those shots off and hole some of those putts felt really good.
