Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Yuka Saso after her second-round match at the T-Mobile Match Play. Talk about your round today. You had a good stretch of winning holes there at the end to close it out. Talk about it.

YUKA SASO: Yeah, it was tough today, like yesterday. It was very windy. Greens are very firm and wind is very hard to judge. I was really struggling the front nine and very lucky on the back nine. Some holes the wind died down and I was really able to go at the flags, and, yeah, make very good chance for birdies.

Q. I believe you won five of your last six holes or something like that. What was it about that stretch?

YUKA SASO: I didn't really do anything special. It was just very tough, really tough out there. Really trying to grind, and whoever gets the lucky bounce really. So, yeah, I didn't really do anything special.

Q. What were you telling yourself to keep the match going, stick in it?

YUKA SASO: I was just wishing for the wind to die down a little bit. You know, what I can control is myself, so I wish I could control the wind a little bit, but luckily my wish came true on the last few holes.

I think I'll keep praying tomorrow.

Q. You said you didn't do anything special. I think that shot on 17 was pretty special.

YUKA SASO: Yeah. That was -- I mean, results were really good but I started a bit left of where I wanted to. I wanted to start more in the middle of the green, so probably five or six yards right of the flag.

Yeah, but I will take it. Yeah, it was really good. That was the only good shot that I hit today. (Laughter.)

Q. Heading into tomorrow, what's the mindset heading into the third match?

YUKA SASO: Really trying to be very patient. If the conditions are going to continue to be like this, it's energy draining and kind of sometimes lose hope of where the ball is going to end up; you don't see your shot.

So really trying to stay in the moment and trying to be very patient.

Q. And what do you personally like most about playing match play?

YUKA SASO: The last time I played match play was when I was still an amateur when I was still playing USGA events. Except the team events that we did in San Francisco, but I was playing with a partner so it's a bit different.

So kind of forget how it felt. Actually it's actually fun. You know, you're only playing with this one person but you still have to focus on yourself and really try to grind yourself out there.

Yeah, just made me, how do you say it, I don't know, just very hard, the relationship. I had fun the last two days. Narin and Shibuno, we're really good friends, so really trying to have fun. I try not to take everything personal.

Q. What is it like playing against your friends out here?

YUKA SASO: I find it fun. I don't take everything too seriously and too personal.

At the end of the day I feel like we're still friends. But whoever plays better, wins. You just have to accept that and move on, so...

I feel that way. I don't know. I still feel like we're friends, yeah. (Smiling.)
