Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Here now with Jodi Shadoff and Heather Lin after their first round at the Dow Championship. Take us through the round today. What worked so well for you guys?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: We just really scrambled well. Heather holed some really nice par saves, and we got a couple long putts to drop.

Yeah, we scored when we needed to and then scrambled our way around for sure.

HEATHER LIN: I got off to a little bit of a shaky start with my tee shots and hit it in the trees a few times. I told Jodi I'm fighting a bunker shot, so she put me in a few bunkers, so we made some really nice up-and-downs.

Coming down to the end she made some really nice birdie putts, long breaking putts. It was impressive.

Q. I was looking through the team names. Take us through your team name and how the partnership came to be.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: We actually played together at U.S. Open qualifier, and I really admired Heather's game. I thought we'd make a really good team. Yeah, that's how we kind of came together.

Then obviously Old Spice and Baby Slice, we actually ChatGPT'd it, so that helped. Obviously being a vet, it kind of fit, yeah.

Q. Jodi, I know you've played here a couple of times. This is your first time, Heather, right? How is it relying on Jodi to pick your shots, pick your angles and stuff like that?

HEATHER LIN: She definitely knows the course better than me. She told she'd be better off the even holes for me for the odd. Probably makes sense.

As Jodi said, Baby Slice came up because I hit a little fade and she hits a little draw, So that really helps out on our course management.

Q. How does the strategy maybe change tomorrow going into four ball versus alternate shot today?

HEATHER LIN: Depends on the pin locations. We're going to have to take a look at that. Jodi is great going to left pins, and I'm a little better towards the right pin, so yeah.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Obviously four ball, you can be a little bit more aggressive depending on where you are in the fairway. If one person wants to be aggressive and one person wants to be a little more safe.

A lot of birdies are going to happen tomorrow, so we can just go out there and fire at pins, I think.

Q. For you, Heather, how does this course suit your game? Same for you, Jodi, I know you've played here a few times. But Heather for you, especially being your first time at Midland Country Club.

HEATHER LIN: I think there are some pretty small greens and tough pins. I feel like I'm more comfortable going to pins on the edge, and the greens are relatively soft, I would say.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Like Heather said, the greens are really receptive right now, and it makes it easier to really fire at pins. Some of the par-3s are kind of tough, so just playing safe when you need to, and then some of the tee shots, just trying to get the ball on the fairway really helped us today. Certain tougher holes being in the fairway really helps.
