Q. Here with Lydia. What a phenomenal way to start this major championship. What were you doing so well out there? You have the experience, but what are some of the key highlights today?
LYDIA KO: Yeah, I think overall I didn't make too many mistakes. One of the biggest like shot mistakes I had was I hit it in the water on the 18th. Chipped in for birdie, so that's golf sometimes. Sometimes you hit the worst shot of the day and then hit the best shot right afterwards.
Yeah, overall I played really solid. I stayed patient, and especially some of the trickier holes I think I played that really well.
So, yeah, definitely a good start to this week.
Q. You talked about how much you enjoy coming back to an area like this, a place that has some key memories for you. Just overall what is it like to be back in Evian this year?
LYDIA KO: Yeah, it's great to be back. We've had some beautiful weather the past few days, so get to enjoy Lake Geneva and enjoy this beautiful place. I think this is one of the majors that I've come and played the most. Every year I feel like I'm leaving with a lot of good and new memories.
When you come back to a place that you've won and where you played well at, I think no matter how you're playing, you're always able to draw on some of the good memories there.
Yeah, enjoying it here. I get to see some of the fans that I only see here at this week, so it's kind of like good reminder seeing them and seeing little kids getting taller every year I come back.
Q. Just in general, how comfortable are you feeling in your game now? I know you had a refreshing week with Danielle at the Dow Championship. Fun team-oriented event. Still, to have that and then the week off at home, how refreshed are you feeling overall?
LYDIA KO: Yeah, I'm sure Danielle and I would've loved to have placed at a higher finish. I think we were trying to play well like for each other. Like it didn't matter if we were going to finish second or 30th. I think she holed a really long birdie putt on the second day final hole for us to make the cut on the number.
Like I was so sad that if she hadn't make it or I hadn't made a birdie that the week was going to end with us more so than like, oh, I just missed the cut.
So it was a fun event, and we have always been close. I feel like walking off this week we got closer and got to know each other more. I know she's someone that always has my back no matter what, so I really enjoyed it. You know, I think because we were having so much fun, we just wanted to keep playing well.
I wish there were more opportunities like that.
Q. First, obviously an impressive summer ahead of you. In general, how excited are you? I know we still got three rounds at Evian. But St Andrews, Olympics, how excited are you for some upcoming golf?
LYDIA KO: Yeah, super excited. Going to be a long summer. This is only the start of it. Especially when it's an Olympics year, the season kind of gets really congested and busy during this middle time.
I'm super excited for it. I'm giving myself good breaks in between so I'm feeling refreshed and energized going into each event.
The three Europe stretch from the Olympics and ending at St Andrews is a great stretch, and my family is going to come out, my husband is going to come out to the British.
So I'm really excited. I don't know how long I'm going to play golf for. Could be five years, ten years, could be one year. I have no idea.
So I think because of that, I'm enjoying these kind of opportunities because I know that it's not going to happen every year and it's definitely shorter time ahead than the past.
Q. Making the most of it, how do you build off a successful day like this heading into tomorrow?
LYDIA KO: I'm excited for the lunch. My stomach was growling. Yeah, no, just it's always nice when you have a longer break, especially because we had such an early wakeup call this morning.
Just take it easy and hopefully the weather god is nice to us for tomorrow.
