Victoria Cui

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, joining me after the first round of the Fortinet Founders Cup is Victoria Cui. Victoria, a 1-under round out there if your first professional event. How are you feeling?

VICTORIA CUI: I am feeling good. Yeah, I think I played pretty well today. Definitely left some strokes out there, but overall I'm pretty happy with that as my first professional round.

Q. We heard that you're a member out here. Do you feel like that gave you any tips and tricks on how to conquer the golf course?

VICTORIA CUI: I think so for sure. I think just knowing the greens is really helpful out here. But it's really interesting to see how they set it up for a pro tournament, so definitely playing a little bit different.

Q. What's an example of that? What's is something they have out here now that that they don't have on a day to day?

VICTORIA CUI: The greens are a lot faster. Normally they're running a bit slower. So it's nice to putt on some faster greens.

And they definitely grew out the rough a lot.

Q. And then we heard that you have Rose Zhang's dad on your bag this week. Can you tell us a bit about that connection?

VICTORIA CUI: Yeah, so I've known him for about five years now. He's definitely served as kind of a mentor to me; Rose has served as a mentor for me as a player.

Yeah, he's really great on the course management and managing the mental side of the game, so it's really nice to have him on the bag this week.

Q. Just wanted to ask you, I knew you were familiar with the course, but playing on Golf Channel and playing in a pro event, what was it like? Did you have time to take it all in and just enjoy that experience?

VICTORIA CUI: I'm trying to take it all in as well as I can. Yeah, obviously this is something that is really new for me, even if the course is familiar, so just trying to take it one step at a time, focus first on my golf, and then see what happens after that.

Q. For sure. Saw you had your family out. Who did you have watching you out there?

VICTORIA CUI: My parents were here the whole time and my sister came after school. So, yeah, it was great.

Q. How is today different than the junior and high school events that you played?

VICTORIA CUI: A lot more people. Yeah, I think the yardage, of course definitely a bit longer. The course layout. The green speed. That's all going to be different. The TVs. Obviously we don't have that at junior tournaments unfortunately.

Yeah, a lot of different stuff. I tried to focus on what I'm familiar with, which is the golf course.

Q. You mentioned the course; you're familiar with it; it's a little different. What do you take away from this as you look into tomorrow and hopefully the weekend?

VICTORIA CUI: Yeah, I think I learned a lot about the course today that I'll definitely take into tomorrow. Just like these pin placements are like a little bit different than what I'm used to. They're obviously like more tucked in the corners and such.

So I'll definitely take the experience that I had today and hopefully build on it tomorrow.

Q. Did you have fun out there?

VICTORIA CUI: Yeah, it was really fun. It helps when you're under par.
