THE MODERATOR: We are here with Hyo Joo Kim. If you have a question, please raise your hand.
Q. So walk us through how your play went.
HYO JOO KIM: I did an eagle, this has been once in a while, so I really thought, is this what I really did? I did have some mistakes at the back end but I tried to overcome that.
Q. Walk us through the eagle.
HYO JOO KIM: It was 120 meters with the wind coming from the front. So I was deciding whether I should go with 8-iron or 7-iron with a bit of control. Among the three of us, I was the one with the less distance, so I had to make a quick decision. So I made my decision and it went well.
Q. The Korean players did very well. What do you think about the wind?
HYO JOO KIM: We really love the support from the fans and there are a lot of galleries today. Sei Young said there wasn't much wind but I thought there was a lot of winds. It was a different thought we had. Maybe the No. 1 player is different than what I am saying but that's my overall impression.
Q. You will be playing with Sei Young tomorrow. Do you think that will help your game?
HYO JOO KIM: Yes, I have been playing with Sei Young before. I enjoy playing with Sei Young. I tend to talk a lot with her. That made me comfortable but Sei Young has a completely different personality to me. She tends to stay focused and rather not talk. So we have completely opposite kind of personalities when we are playing. So I will have to chase her. My walking speed is going to be fast to chase with Sei Young but we'll have to see tomorrow.
Q. Your swing looks always comfortable and confident. Is that because it's out of your habit or are you mentally more stable than before, is that why? And what is the key to win this event?
HYO JOO KIM: I think my swing is really coming out of my habit. There are times when I'm nervous and not stable but I think it's really embedded in my body to make that swing.
To win, I really think I just have to finish the green play as early as possible.
Q. You are on second place with Lindy Duncan. I understand she will have dinner with Hyi-Jin, maybe kimbap style. What will you have for dinner?
HYO JOO KIM: I haven't really thought that. I'm really hungry at the moment so I'm going to think very hard for what to eat for dinner.
Q. What's your plan for the second round tomorrow?
HYO JOO KIM: I'll try to be consistent as I did for today. Like Hawai'i, what I always think to myself is, let's do better than yesterday. But in order to do that for tomorrow, it's going to be difficult because I have to do 10-under. So I'll really focus on my shots and my putts.
Q. What do you think after the first round, do you think you are almost to victory?
HYO JOO KIM: Well, this is a four-day event and it really depends a lot on the weather, and you can't really say after having a good first round, you can really go closer to victory. So that's not really in my thought. There's going to be a lot of wind, as well, but I think I have made a good start for the first day.
Q. How eager are you to win for the second victory of the season, and also I want to hear your impression of the next event, International Crown?
HYO JOO KIM: Yes, I'm very eager and looking forward to my second victory on the season. I really missed a victory by a slight chance in Hawai'i, so I'll really try my best to get a second victory. I try not to think about victory when I play. I only have the thought before I go into play and really focus on my shot-by-shot, and when I made an eagle today, I was talking to Haeran, and Haeran said, "Do that for the next event, International Crown."
But I said, "Well, I have to do it in this tournament, as well." So next event, which is a team play, which is very important. So I really want to enjoy the most out of it.
THE MODERATOR: A lot of people have compared this course to Hawai'i where you played well there, also. Do you feel that the courses are similar?
HYO JOO KIM: Well, I personally think the course is very different than Hawai'i. That's my personal takeaway. I can't really pinpoint exactly what is the difference but I think it's different. I can't really explain why. The green is different but the wind, I don't know, I just can't explain what it is but it's different.
