El Camaleón Golf Course

Nelly Korda

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with the Nelly Korda after the third round, a couple questions here to start things off. You know, what's it like going from the course last week? You know, big, kind of wide open, and this week kind of narrowing down.

NELLY KORDA: Definitely a little intimidating, definitely have to hit it really well off the tee, kind of dial in to your yardages. And with the wind swirling, I mean you have to be really confident in your start targets and to let that wind kind of take it to where you really want. So two completely different golf courses, two different grasses as well, so I'm just happy with the position I’m in.

Q. And you've avoided a lot of bogeys over the past couple days. Obviously that's the goal every week, but is there any extra emphasis at this course you feel like?

NELLY KORDA: I think the emphasis is just putting yourself in the right spots, you know, I'm very realistic when it comes to - you're gonna make mistakes, you're going to make bogeys, it's about just kind of having that mentality of trying to bounce back as fast as possible, but avoiding the mistakes, that's just not being realistic and you know obviously trying to minimize them as much as possible but on a golf course like this it's kind of hard to just avoid them completely, like I've had a couple of long par saves this week but they're pretty hard to avoid.

Q. Another bogey free round and you close it with an eagle here on the 18th. How do you feel about this third round?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, great. You know, it's always nice to finish the round with an eagle, a tap-in eagle pretty much. And I'm just really happy with my game. I played some solid golf today. I made a good par save on 9, and that's the only kind of time in the round that I really put myself into trouble. And I just was trying to play safe with the ones that, you know, I wasn't wanting to be too aggressive with. So overall, I'm really happy.

Q. In the press conference, previous to the tournament, you said that being the number one of the world just means you're playing the best golf right now. Do you feel that's where you're at right now at Mayakoba?

NELLY KORDA: I feel good. I love competing. You're never going to have your A-game. A lot of players, if you talk to them in the past, a common question, or I think a question a lot of people should ask is like, did you win with your A game? Did you win your B game or your C game? I've talked to guys, I've talk to girls, and rarely have they ever said, I won with my A game that week. It's all about just grinding it out and being confident in knowing that you know, you're going to make mistakes, but not to emphasize them too much and to quickly try and bounce back.

Q. You know, just your overall thoughts about the Mexican crowd and supporting you even though there are other Mexican players but still they still love you.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it's been nice. I haven't been back here in a really long time. You know, when you have the vibe that you have on 18, it is a lot of fun, but it is hot out here. So, I show much appreciation to the fans that who come out an stick out all 18 holes.

Q. When you play pretty much a perfect round for three days, just one bogey for the first three rounds, how do you avoid the temptation to go for some flags that are kind of risky, probably today like six, seven?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah.

Q. It's easy to commit a mistake. How do you avoid that temptation?

NELLY KORDA: Experience. Just not knowing that it's not the 18th hole, I don't need to press just to be smart. Also, I have a great caddy that does his homework, that walks the golf course, that's how the greens are reactive, that you just kind of try to avoid the mistakes as much as possible. You're gonna hit a bad shot here and there and you're gonna find yourself in trouble, but trying to kind of stay away from the holes that kind of lead you to trouble. I think it's the goal and be aggressive on a par-5 that you hit a good tee shot. It's all about placement out here because it is a really hard golf course.

Q. The girl is going to be playing tomorrow with Arpichaya Yubol, is turning 24 tomorrow. So she says that one of her wishes is to play alongside with you, so it's her birthday. She's going to play with the number one in the world. What does it mean for you?

NELLY KORDA: It's great. I mean, she's young, but at the end of the day, I'm just going to focus on myself trying to get the job done and see how the day goes. But I’ll wish her a happy birthday on the first tee.
