Green Bay Packers 35, Houston Texans 20
Q. 196 receiving yards, I think one hundred in the first half. Can you bring me through your day and how did you feel being able to get into a rhythm early with Aaron?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Felt great, man. Felt great. Any time you can get going early, I feel like that's a recipe for success in our offense and Aaron and us, our connection. That's something we were aiming to do, hit on all cylinders early and get me going so I can produce for this offense. Great playing this week. Felt good about everything all week, coming in Monday, getting some of stuff, the plays run and by the time it got to Friday I had a pretty good feeling of how this game was going to go with our personnel versus there's, so, yeah, it was a good day.
Q. When you get contributions from Malik and Jace what does that mean to the offense and how much more dynamic? Obviously you're hitting a ton the balls but when the guys can cheap in here and there, what does it do for you?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Gives us an opportunity to be more successful on offense. We have our workhorses who we rely on a little bit more than others, but having Aaron out this week and Jamaal stepping up big -- I know you didn't ask about Jamaal but I just kind of wanted to throw that in there, his energy, everything he brings to our team is just super positive and we love him out there and the same goes for Jace, he's had his ups and downs, but I think that, you know, it shows a lot about who he is to go through that, go through some of the media stuff, and the outside noise and still push through and make plays for us. It's going to be big for us and it's a big reason why we drafted him as high as we did. He's got a lot to him. Same with Malik. He's made plays when he's been called on and that's what we expect from them moving forward.
Q. You mentioned how good this week felt for you guys. I know that that was part of what was frustrating was the week that went into the Tampa -- how much better did this week feel? What did you see? What did you hear to give you a sense that this was going to be a different week and how gratifying to be able to put it on the field as sharp as you guys were today?
DAVANTE ADAMS: For me it's seeing some of the things that we have drawn up. Some of the things that the rest of the coaching staff come up with, they saw from the personnel we're going against and how they like to play other people and you have to look at how they are going to play us because it's no secret that playing against Aaron and I is a little bit different than just playing against whoever week-in, week-out, whether that's just the way we do things differently or at a higher level. Getting things dialed up for us is big, and you know, getting a lot of those plays run throughout the week is huge. It's one thing to feel great about a play on Thursday or Friday but once you get out there and it looks the exact same way you drew it up and you get the coverage you wanted and all that, that's when you're in a really good spot.
Q. Did you have a feeling it might be your day? The third down grab at the end of the first quarter, Aaron had to let it go, you turned it around, fantastic connection and I don't think you saw the ball -- do you know it's your day when you make something like that happen?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Yeah, those are the ones and that actually happens a lot more often than people think. It's tough, you get in some of these domes, the ball is in the light line for a while and like you said could I not see the ball and so basically touched my hands and had an idea of where it was and I just had to squeeze on it and that's just a credit to Aaron for throwing a ball that I can catch without seeing. That's big. Those are the type of plays that we've made in the past and we had a high percentage of them today and that's what I hope we continue to do.
Q. You talked about how you felt good this week. Did y'all come into this game with an extra chip on your shoulder because of the criticism you received after the Tampa Bay game?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Well, not at first but definitely wasn't due to the criticism. That didn't have anything to do with it. I didn't pay any attention to that. It was more so just we felt like we owed it to ourselves, which based off how we played last week, we started off good and gave them -- allowed them to come back into the game due to some turnovers and that's not our identity as a football team. We have secured, if anything, we have secured the way that we take care of the ball. We do that first and foremost and I feel like better than anybody in the league. To have those two turnovers, we wanted to turn around and make sure we did our thing this week, take care of the ball, be clean and honestly the rest takes care of itself.
Q. Coach makes a big deal of everyone doing their 1/11. What can you say about your offensive line today?
DAVANTE ADAMS: I mean, this statement is no disrespect to anybody, I know there's certain people who would like to use some of my quotes as click bait and hopefully that doesn't turn into this, but you know, just based off how those guys went out there and dominated, I truly forgot who we were facing at the time until I had to walk by them on the way back to the huddle, which is huge, because guys been doing that for such a long time. Obviously the more and more -- I just know how I feel when I get out there at this point, just the comfort that I have because I've been playing at a high level for a while now. So just the comfort and the confidence to go out there and play. I know what that can do for me, so seeing a guy like 99 over there, he's obviously living in that same world as far as comfort. He's been doing it longer than I have. To have our guys step in there and after not playing the way they wanted to play last week obviously, playing against a great front last week as well, it takes a lot to bounce back from something like that, face that adversity and shake it off and come back. And credit to the coaches, as well, for coming up with a good plan, but yeah, I'm really proud of those guys.
Q. Maybe the answer here is nothing, but when they lose their No. 1 corner what does that mean to you? Does it make your eyeballs light up that you have an even bigger day than you would have? Does it change anything whatsoever?
DAVANTE ADAMS: You answered your own question for that, honestly. I look at everybody the same way and I think I've said that a trillion times at this point and it's no disrespect to anybody. 21 is a hell of a player and I'm not really sure what happened or why he didn't play. I would have loved that match-up, as well. At the end of the day I can edge see what's in front of me. I'm going to go out there and run my routes to win no matter who is guarding me as I always say. That would have been a good match-up either way.
Q. Eight catches into this performance, are you wondering, where is the double or the triple team on you to take you out of the game, especially on the long touchdown, it looked like the safety was shading you to the other side on that play. Were you just wondering when that was going to happen?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Yeah, a little bit wondering. Part of me just wanted to keep it -- I didn't want to speak that up into the universe. I enjoy my one-on-ones. Those are fun over there. Any time I can get them, I'm going to try to make sure we execute and we're on top of it, and I think Aaron has a little bit of -- his intent is to go up when we do get those one-on-ones, as well. And you can kind of see the people -- they run different coverages but at the end of the day, you still have to execute, and then if you win a double -- see what happens there, we have other guys, who their number isn't called as much stepping up at this point.
Not too worried about it. I love the one-on-ones and I'll take them all day. You know, if they do double me, then we've got answers for that, as well.
Q. You've mentioned a couple times the plan coming in. How much of that was about getting you kind of closer in line because there was a lot of reduced splits, a lot of you in the slot. How much did you want to work basically give yourself a lot of room to work against some of these corners?
DAVANTE ADAMS: Well, yeah, that's a good question. I think just based off of, you know, how they play, that had a lot to do with it. They do a lot of -- they played a lot of man. There's no doubt about that. One thing that makes it tougher for guys to go out when they are in man is just the fact that I can go completely right and just go take it outside, or as I did on the second touchdown, or I can, you know, on a couple off the third downs where I had some crossing routes, it makes it tough to defend, especially when you have a guy that can release well, whether it's me or whoever else, it makes it difficult to cover all that field. Like I say it was a good plan by our coaching staff and great situationally, as well.
