Titans 41, Texans 38
Q. Tough year for you guys; your thoughts on the way you guys played today and the effort? Obviously a lot will change with this team, the configuration, but how you played today and what you think about your experience this year?
DAVID JOHNSON: It was definitely a tough year, man. A lot of ups and downs. I think today we fought, though. We definitely fought. We didn't back down. We didn't give up, even though we were not in the playoffs. I thought I definitely could have did better. I had a pretty good game, but I definitely could have done better, especially on one of the early drives where I missed that catch. That was a touchdown. Deshaun threw it right to me, man, right spot on, and I dropped it, and that could have been a momentum swing, and who knows what would have happened.
As far as running I think I did good, but I didn't have 100. I think I definitely could have had 100, but I just missed a couple holes, didn't break enough tackles?
Q. Obviously the business of football, it happens fast. Would you like to stay here? What do you think about the future after being here for one year?
DAVID JOHNSON: Yeah, definitely want to stay here. Definitely want to stay here, help out the team as much as I can next year, do everything I can. Especially when we've got a guy like Deshaun at quarterback, we always have chance. So I'd definitely love to be here next year.
Q. This is y'all's eighth one-score loss this year. What were your thoughts, your emotions when you saw that ball carom, the field goal kick hit the upright, go through and it was over?
DAVID JOHNSON: I thought he missed, honestly. I thought he did miss at first. It's a tough angle from where our sideline is. It's just unbelievable, just tough losses. I was talking to one of the coaches, you know, eight games, one-score games that we lost. You know, it was just a rough year. Basically this season all in one at the end of the game.
Q. Actually to that end, that's what I was going to ask you about with all of those close games, all of those one-score games, do you feel like the team is close? Does it seem like maybe you guys are unlucky, like maybe you guys are close?
DAVID JOHNSON: Yeah, I definitely do, because honestly, all those one-score games were division games. We were driving, and we had momentum on I think -- I want to say every loss we had in our division, at least we could have came out on top, and who knows what -- we'd be in the playoffs, we'd win the division, and those one-score games are tough. That's how the NFL is. Everything matters. Every play, every snap. I think we're close, very close.
Q. Do you feel like your production picked up after you were off the COVID list, and if so, what do you, I guess, attribute that to?
DAVID JOHNSON: I definitely do. I definitely think my production picked up, got a lot better. I think the biggest thing was I talked to a mental health coach and he really just helped me focus on the play at hand, don't think too much in the past, one play at a time, what's important now, and really just focusing on what's in front of me because there's a lot of distractions with this off-season, with the virus, with everything going on with this organization. I think that was the biggest thing that I needed to do was just sit down -- especially after the concussion, after a tough and a weird injury, and I think just talking to him really helped me out.
Q. What was it about -- what did you all discuss because after the first two possessions you all went on seven straight scoring possessions. What was discussed that made you all start clicking like that?
DAVID JOHNSON: We were telling each other that we've got this, man. We've got all the confidence in everyone on the offensive side. We can run the ball, we can do everything we can. It's really us stopping us, me missing holes, me not blocking right, me dropping passes, and I think once we start getting a groove on, our confidence started going through the roof and our motivation, our composure, everything just started clicking.
You know, in the NFL, man, when you have momentum on your side, a lot of wonders can happen, a lot of great things. Luck or whatever, success, whatever you want to say starts swinging your way.
