MALIEK COLLINS: He got to go make the play. He got home. He got free.
Q. What do you think about one --
MALIEK COLLINS: At the end of the day he made the play, so however you feel about it, I give him all the credit for it.
Q. What do you think about Charles?
MALIEK COLLINS: He's Chuck. Good player. Looking forward to seeing him grow and continue to develop.
Q. What do you like about his game?
MALIEK COLLINS: I like his game. He's strong. He can bend. Yeah, man, he a great player. You seen on Saturday whenever we played, a glimpse of what he can be. He's going to continue to work and develop.
Q. You talked about how you play off of each other especially on third downs. How do y'all work together?
MALIEK COLLINS: Anybody playing next to me know I like to get vertical. I'm getting off the ball, so with that, it's going to be a lot of opportunities for the ends.
Q. How would you describe the role they want you to have on the D-Line?
MALIEK COLLINS: I mean, they pretty much just want me to come in and be myself, play football the way I know how to play football and that's what I plan on doing.
Q. How would you describe that?
MALIEK COLLINS: Twitchy. Going to get off the ball. Low center of gravity. Going to have fun. Win one-on-ones.
Q. Have the ends told you that they expect to make a lot of plays based off the work that you do inside?
MALIEK COLLINS: There been a lot of chatter but we got to go out and do it and put it on tape.
Q. What's your impression of Roy Lopez so far?
MALIEK COLLINS: Roy a dog. I feel like he going to help this team.
Q. Growing into the league, these one-on-ones seem to be a big deal, at what point did you feel like you were able to win those consistently?
MALIEK COLLINS: Been from the beginning. That's always been a focus of my game, especially when it comes to pass rushing and in the run game, winning one-on-ones, you get a fan block, you get anything, you have to get back in on that slay because there's only one person blocking you. If you win your one-on-ones, you have a good chance of being a good player in this league.
Q. How do you refine that?
MALIEK COLLINS: Just by putting focus on it. Knowing what plays are coming, knowing protections, when you're going to get a one-on-one block so you can prepare your rush for that. It's just been a big emphasis since I got into this league.
Q. With the emphasis on turnovers and how effective y'all will be with that, is that as much about mentality as you do schematically?
MALIEK COLLINS: It's very much a mentality. Like I said, it's an emphasis just like winning one-on-one s is an emphasis and when you win one-on-ones, you get pressure on the quarterback or get to the ball faster, there's more opportunity for strip attempts and tipped balls and batted balls at line of scrimmage which create turnovers.
Q. Is there something Lovie does to emphasize turnovers?
MALIEK COLLINS: He bring it up every day. Whenever you make a good play, and look at the opportunity you could have had to get the ball. Just never leaving that an opportunity out there and just taking advantage.
Q. Any sort of like drill in practice?
MALIEK COLLINS: I'm not sure what he does with the other guys but I know the D-Line it's pretty much a ball emphasis. Sacks is better.
Q. What do you think of the makeup of the D-Line?
MALIEK COLLINS: It's some dogs up there. It's a lot of competition. I just want to contribute and be a part of it.
Q. What stands out to you about the group?
MALIEK COLLINS: Everybody hungry. Everybody coming in. Everybody working. Everybody want to go get their own.
Q. Talking to a lot of defensive linemen, they talk about attacking the rush and getting to the passer. Is it the same approach in the run game?
MALIEK COLLINS: Yeah, for sure. I mean my position, I get off the ball. I get up the field. Set vertical edges and then make the play in the backfield. I don't look at making plays for three-yard gains and stuff like that. I'm a vertical, up the field player, I'm going to make a lot of TFLs and a lot of sacks, because set the ball back in the end and we can get the rusher.
Q. Seems like you have simplified your view.
MALIEK COLLINS: I don't like going out there and thinking and reading all this extra stuff. I like to keep it simple, stay on my edge, get off the ball, win my singles. That's my game.
