Bruce Arians

Press Conference

BRUCE ARIANS: Pleased with everything but the first series on offense. Can't start against Dallas with a penalty on three-and-out and give them field position but other than that we had a nice rhythm. Loved the speed of the defense, speed of the offense. Once we got going, I saw the things I wanted to see, I didn't need to see anymore. Some young players stepped up, other didn't and we've got some rookies that the game is still a little big for. We'll continue to coach with and hopefully get to play them.

Q. The drive, everything you wanted to see?

BRUCE ARIANS: I thought it was a great run pass. First one was a no-huddle what we've been want to go get into and get going and Tom did a great job and great protection. Guys are where they are supposed to be and started running really well and that was another really good drive and mixing it up.

Q. Defensively, the first defense didn't give a point -- three takeaways?

BRUCE ARIANS: I was very pleased -- obviously getting five turnovers but stopping on all those fourth down, it was obviously a totally different game when the kicker was injured. But yeah, I thought our defense, again, Joe needs more work, Anthony, got them out of there and then some young guys really came in and did a good job.

Q. You talked about Grant and Joe being in that battle what did you see from both of them tonight? Did one pull ahead of the other?

BRUCE ARIANS: No, it's still, I have to go back and grade the special teams tape rather than the defensive tape.

Q. In terms of guys stepping up and making cases -- the six tackles, two kicks, how much did he help himself?

BRUCE ARIANS: So I have watch the rest of the tape but you saw the splash plays but the guys was right behind him twice, where he shouldn't have been. I have to watch the whole film 'Brick make declarations of who helped themselves. Obviously getting two picks, you ain't going to hurt yourself, that's for sure and shame with Herbie.

Q. Are you happy with where your team is as you get ready for the regular season?

BRUCE ARIANS: Yeah, we are healthy and I like the game speed with which we played this ballgame and we still had guys that were catching back up but I think we're going to be fine.

Q. We saw Scotty Miller -- looked like a wrist?

BRUCE ARIANS: It was an elbow but he's fine. Nobody came out with any injury of any significance.

Q. In your kicking game, how much does it bother you to have the block --

BRUCE ARIANS: The first one was a low kick. Second was a total whiff by the wing and he should be able to do that job, and he didn't get it done. So it didn't help his cause.

Q. What was the thinking of switching to Trask?

BRUCE ARIANS: Yeah, we just wanted to give Kyle more work and saw enough -- the guys around him were not playing very good, so his interception was a perfectly thrown ball, expecting this guy to break in and young guy is playing. So I'm fine with where they are at.

Q. The touchdown, he was four or four on that drive, probably the best he's played?

BRUCE ARIANS: Yeah, and he got -- he wasn't going to have that much protection on the next drive but I like where he's at, he's getting better and better but again hopefully we're not playing with him for a while.
