Tampa Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23, Houston Texans 16
Q. Two 90-yard touchdown drives?
TOM BRADY: Obviously got off to a low start, three-and-out, but good to get a couple good long drives. We really haven't played that much. So just get our feel and get out there and get some rhythm. O-Line did a great job in protection and receivers all made plays, so it's just good to spread the ball around and get into a little flow so it was good to score and good to win.
Q. How much more important is it in game action to get these reps to get the nuances the timing, is it that much different?
TOM BRADY: A lot of things, absolutely. I think every time you play you learn something and I've been doing this a long time, but I don't think you ever take anything for granted and I think you have to get the real reps, you have to get the real crowd noise, you have to get the real game clock. You have to get the real situations and the more you deal as a team the better you're going to be as the pressure mounts. It was good to be able to get some things done tonight and certainly not a finished product. We have a long way to go.
Q. You and Nick, what did he help you with in your career?
TOM BRADY: I've known Nick for 20 years, at least, maybe 21 years and just a great person. Great football mind. Diligent, hard working, and very detailed. So I've really appreciated my time with Nick. He's done a great job. Happy that he got an opportunity here.
Q. Seeing him get an opportunity to run a team now?
TOM BRADY: It's great. We are all getting different opportunities as we get older. So you know, you kind of put in the work and you get different opportunities at different times and it's Nick's first opportunity to really take that kind of sole position. Happy for him and wish him the best of luck, unless he's playing against us.
There's a lot of guys that I know that are on this team that I root for. Billy and I were friends. It's just a lot of really great people that the Houston organization has.
Q. The broadcast showed you giving something to a little kid and he started weeping. After all this time, did you still like doing that for kids and fans?
TOM BRADY: I think we all can make an impact on our communities in a positive way. So it's great to see the support of the fans comeback out, and you know, whether you shake their hands -- I was a kid once, too. Just sometimes acknowledging them is great. Sometimes to stay focused and it is a preseason game, so I would say it's a little more loose than usual. Usually I'm pretty focused during the game and after the game I probably have a little more fun. But a preseason game, maybe a little less, especially coming out in the second quarter. Ted had some fun with the fans and it was nice.
Q. Did you see his reaction?
TOM BRADY: No.
Q. He was weeping.
TOM BRADY: Very sweet.
Q. How will you get ready for Week 1?
TOM BRADY: I love that sooner game. It means we did something good. It's good to start the season against a good team. Dallas has a lot of firepower and are a lot of draft picks. They have some new things we're going to have to prepare for and you've got to start the season the right way, and I think we had a decent training camp and now we've made final cuts and it's always a tough time for all the players and coaches. Nobody likes this time year for those reasons.
But as soon as that happens, the other team has got to come together quickly and get prepared to play our first biggest game of the year. There's a lot of big games, but the first big game of the year is Thursday night.
