Brian Burns

Press Conference

Panthers 24, Texans 9

BRIAN BURNS: (In progress.) It's a big win and it was on the road, it was tough, sloppy game. Got a lot of things to work on. Just like not beating ourselves, but for the win.

Q. You may have heard the question to Hasaan, but you think the short week may have played a role in the injuries on your side tonight?

BRIAN BURNS: No, I wouldn't necessarily say that. I feel like everybody took care of themselves pretty well with this quick turnaround. I seen a lot guys in to the treatment room trying to get their bodies back right from the game we had Sunday, so I wouldn't say that that played a big part in the injuries that -- or the guys that went down this game.

Q. What's going through your mind when you see Christian go to the tent and then Jaycee and Juston and just kind of wracking up the injuries like that?

BRIAN BURNS: To be honest, I wasn't -- I didn't notice Christian went to the tent at first. Just noticed he wasn't in n the game, and then I figured out what was going on. I mean, it's a part of game. Guys go down, guys got to step up. I think Chuba stepped up pretty well, and I think some guys in the back end stepped up pretty well.

We don't want anybody to go down. It's part of the game. That's how it go.

Q. You guys hold yourself to a pretty high standard now. Only allowed nine points, I think ya'll had four or five sacks, that's not good enough for as good as this defense is.

BRIAN BURNS: No, we're leaving a lot of plays out there. We really need to get back to the drawing board and clean them up. Especially like the offsides. That's just like mental errors.

But other than that, we just need to clean up everything that we can moving onto Dallas.

Q. (No microphone.)

BRIAN BURNS: What did you say?

Q. What do you think changed for you all or helped you all in the second half to pull away?

BRIAN BURNS: I don't know. We just kept pushing it. Like I say, we take everything like it's what's next. So we're just focusing on the next play. We just kept it pushing. Sam did a great job. Offense did a great job. The defense, we will held them, you feel me, so it's complementary football, and we held it down.

Q. Were there discussions at halftime about what you all needed to do at all?

BRIAN BURNS: No, we stick to the same plan.

Q. What did you learn about this team after Christian and then Horn go down?

BRIAN BURNS: That we got some ballers and some people that can step up when they need to. Like I just said, Chuba, I felt like he did a good job in the secondary; secondary guys that came in, they didn't miss a beat.

It's tough not having Christian and Jaycee on the back end, but at the end of the day you got to have guys behind them that can play without losing any slack.

It was great to see, and this is a tough time. Those guys be back and their in my prayers.

Q. Did you get a chance to talk to either of them?

BRIAN BURNS: Not yet.

Q. What was Phil's message at halftime?

BRIAN BURNS: No, he was just -- just the things that we may have busted or the things that like if our eyes weren't in the right place. Any small techniques, that's what it was. It was just corrections.

But we all stay with the same mindset from the first half. We got to come out, it's what's next, and onto the next play.

Q. Is this a game you guys would've lost the last couple years with the adversity mounting?

BRIAN BURNS: I don't know. Games go up and down. I mean, we was -- last couple years we was in some tough fights and we pulled off so the wins. I don't know. Games go up and down.

Q. The mood seems a little less I guess jovial than it was in the previous win. Is it because of injuries? Is it because of the plays that you feel like you left on the field?

BRIAN BURNS: It's a little bit of it all. I mean, like you never want to see one of your brothers go down. Also, just like knowing all the mental errors that we had on this game, we got to get that fixed. Every game ain't going to be like this. We pulled it off, but every game ain't going to be like this. We can't have that. Can't beat ourselves.
