Ernest Jones

Visitors Postgame Press Conference

Rams 38, Texans 22

Q. Ernest, how are you doing?

ERNEST JONES: Good.

Q. What does it feel like to get that game ball?

ERNEST JONES: Oh, man, it felt great. Definitely wasn't expecting that. But just being able to do stuff for my team and put us in this position. To able to play pretty good was just something that I look forward to and that I was happy with.

So getting the game ball was another add to the win and stuff.

Q. Can you walk us through the interception?

ERNEST JONES: I don't know, just out there in the flats and kind of felt the guy coming behind me, so I just wanted to play it as if -- I knew he was behind me. Just trying to play it where the quarterback would think he wasn't, and he threw it, I caught it, and tried go get us a touchdown.

Q. Ernest, was that week like for you? Obviously Kenny was traded, bigger role for you, and then you go out here and start and have a pretty solid game.

ERNEST JONES: It was just kind of everything that I been wanting. I been wanting to get a bigger role for this team and help us out, so when the news came about them trading Kenny, of course I wanted to be there for him, but I also knew the season wasn't going to end there. There are vet guys in that locker room who are depending on me to come in and if not elevate our players, just keep it the same and not bring us down.

From that moment on I was focused on making sure my execution was on pointe and I didn't bring the group down.

Q. Anything coming out of this game that you see that you need to work on?

ERNEST JONES: I got to work on everything. I'm ready to get back and watch it. I just love getting better. Just love being in the position where now I'm able to help the team in ways that I like to.

So I'm just going to keep getting better at everything.

Q. Seemed like as the game progressed you were just checking box after box after box in the stat sheet. When you're kind of in the action in that way, so involved in that way, do you realize that's happening or are you just one play at a time?

ERNEST JONES: It's kind of one play at a time, and but when I come into every game and I want to affect any way, tackles, breakups, anything.

So I'm kind of conscious of those things, but I'm not really focused on it. I'm just out there doing my job, doing what I love to do.

Q. You're 7-1. The old cliche you can see the forest through the trees, but still a long way to go.

ERNEST JONES: Yeah, definitely a long way to go. Nobody is looking too far down the line. We got to take the next opponent one game at a time, because you can be looking too far ahead and 7-1 can turn bad. We're just going to keep one game, one opponent at a time.

Q. You said it surprised you to get the game ball. What will you do with that?

ERNEST JONES: Keep it, frame it. I'm proud. Just happy that I was able to help our team and just help those guys kept winning. Man, that's all I want to do, so I'm just happy.

Q. What did you see on film coming into this week to play the type of game you did today?

ERNEST JONES: You know, they're a good team as well. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. It was more so just making sure that we were executing our stuff, making sure that we were in the right places.

You know, they would have some success, make plays, but just as long as we were where we were supposed to be we felt like we would come out with the victory.

Q. Is that what makes the game easier, when everybody is on the same page?

ERNEST JONES: Oh, yeah. When everybody is on the same page on defense it makes the game a lot easier. Makes it flow. Makes us a really good team when we're all connecting.

Q. At one point during the week just going over your plays and things like that was there anyone you leaned on this week? (Indiscernible)

ERNEST JONES: This week for me, man, all those guys have been like -- they knew the potential. They knew that I could play. It was just for me, for me this week I wanted to go out there and show them they can trust me, that they can depend on me and I'm going to come in and play fast and physical up and to their standard.

So all week every guy was in my ear, Play your game. Don't try to do too much. Just go play like you like to play. So each of those guys really helped me out this whole week. I'm really thankful for this team.

Q. Conditioning in terms of playing that many defensive snaps, getting tired?

ERNEST JONES: No, I'm always going to keep going. I am going to do a little bit extra conditioning just for this continued road. (Laughter.)

Q. When you have the same preparation and same mindset every week regardless of your role, I'm sure that what allowed you to play as fast as you did.

ERNEST JONES: Right.

Q. How would you describe it being out there and being able to seamlessly pick up your role?

ERNEST JONES: It was amazing. I could tell that I had been preparing because a lot of -- from the jump there was no like I wasn't playing too fast. I was comfortable. So just this whole week of preparation helped me out and enabled me to go out there and play well.

Q. Have you thought about Derrick Henry next week?

ERNEST JONES: I mean, not really. You know, just got to go out there and tackle, make plays of defensively we got to go out there and stop another good run game.

It is what it is. We'll be ready.
