Rams 38, Texans 22
GREG GAINES: Yeah, that's always tough. I mean, that's part of the game. Got to have guys ready to come up when someone goes down. I mean, we are pretty good at that as a team. We've got good depth.
Q. I think you're still processing this win, but just curious, next Sunday with Titans and Derrick Henry coming into town, run-stop guy like yourself, how do you see that matchup?
GREG GAINES: I am pretty excited for that matchup because I trained with Roger Safford in the off-season, and I know that dude is one of the strongest dudes I've ever seen. I am kind of excited to go against him and see what I can do. That should be really fun, and Derrick Henry will be an awesome challenge as well.
Q. (Regarding Ernest Jones.)
GREG GAINES: Ernest Jones balled out tonight. He was doing awesome. That interception was super cool. He was making good tackle, fitting up in the holes. He did a good job for sure. It was awesome. I knew he was ready, too. He's been practicing really well showing what he's got.
Q. Greg, how important was it for you guys to just get through a three-game stretch and take care of business against three teams who have been struggling throughout the season?
GREG GAINES: It's good to get through them. Those are like -- happens all the time in the NFL. Teams lose when they're not supposed to. It's like any given week in the NFL you can get taken down. Still, at the end of the day everyone here is NFL football players. We're all the best of the best. Any week you can get taken down. Any week, any time. You got to be prepared.
Q. A'Shawn Robinson is progressing and played a lot today, especially early on. How have you seen him progress and almost kind of come into his own as the season has progressed here?
GREG GAINES: He's been doing well really. Last season he had the issue and missed a couple games at the beginning. Took him a little bit to get this his groove, but I think he found it. He's playing really well. Getting great knock off. Making plays. He's doing a good job. He's really coming along good.
Q. Do you think you all did something coming into this week to confuse young quarterback like Davis Mills?
GREG GAINES: I don't think so. I think we just stuck to our normal stuff and do what we do. We didn't change up much. Just did our normal thing.
Q. How did you feel 7-1, sitting pretty good in terms of maybe a run to the playoffs. How would you assess the success?
GREG GAINES: It's definitely exciting. Winning is always better than losing for sure. We take week by week. I mean, any week you can get beat in this league. Every team is good. Everyone has good players. So we just got to take it week by week and keep going.
Q. Greg, to go back to Ernest Jones for just a second, what have you noticed about his work ethic this week or in weeks past?
GREG GAINES: I feel like since he got here he's had like just a good, strong command at the middle linebacker position. He's got to make the plays and I feel like he's been do that great since he showed up.
Like you said, I feel like he does prepare like he's going to play every week and that paid off. He balled out. It was awesome to see him play like that.
Q. One of the things Sean just talked about is how when you guys go on the road it might be a 10:00 a.m. game in New York (indiscernible). Why is this defense able to succeed in that this situation?
GREG GAINES: I mean, I feel like we just don't worry about it. It's like either we do the 10:00 a.m. game for us or like it's no problem for us. We don't mind getting up early and getting to work. I prefer these games. You just wake up and play football. No sitting in the hotel room thinking too much.
Just wake up and go straight to work. I prefer it actually.
Q. (No microphone.)
GREG GAINES: I mean, it would being nice, but I like -- I'm just glad we got everybody in. Everyone got to go out and play and have fun and give the young guy some love and get some reps in and show what they can do, so I thought it was a good experience for everyone.
