Maliek Collins

Press Conference

Q. What led to the decision, you said all throughout the year that you enjoyed it here and your experience, not a big surprise for you to re-sign.

MALIEK COLLINS: I think we are building something special here and I wanted to be a part that have.

Q. Being in Texas is that important to you, being in this state?

MALIEK COLLINS: For sure.

Q. What are some reasons for that?

MALIEK COLLINS: Family. My kids are here. I mean, it's just I love the atmosphere. It's a great place for me and my family.

Q. When you say build something special, how much is Lovie Smith a part that have?

MALIEK COLLINS: He's the key piece. He writes the script every day for how it look and what it's supposed to look like. So I mean, he's done it before and you know, we are just going to follow him.

Q. Without pads, what can you Garner from these workouts with the offensive line?

MALIEK COLLINS: Everything but a bullrush. You can do pretty much everything.

Q. Spin moves and stuff?

MALIEK COLLINS: Yeah, I had to pull out a couple today. They was blocking me too good.

Q. You mentioned some other veteran additions --

MALIEK COLLINS: Jerry.

Q. You're not the oldest guy. What do you feel like that will add to have some experience like that?

MALIEK COLLINS: I mean, I think it adds a lot. Those two guys, they are so accomplished, and doing what they done did; the sack totals they done had in their career. I'm just striving to be -- to get those type of numbers and striving to be around for 12 and 13 years.

Q. What do you feel like as a coach he can impart to you guys?

MALIEK COLLINS: You talking about Jock? He know what it takes, every day. I mean, it's nothing like having a player coach that's played before, and especially that's played your position. I mean, I think it's huge.

Q. What are your early impressions of Kenyon Green?

MALIEK COLLINS: Kenyon, that's my dog. He got a little segment in every meeting called Kenyon's Corner. He just get up there and talk for three or four minutes. He just change the tempo of the meeting and he always has good stuff. He made great cut-ups. He a good guy to be around.

Q. Veteran defensive line but younger guys all stepping up, what does that say about their adaptability and willingness to re-learn and what they saw last year?

MALIEK COLLINS: You say what?

Q. What does it mean to see the young guys step up in a more prominent role?

MALIEK COLLINS: I love it. I just stride to pay attention to what we're doing up front. As long as we are doing our job up front, putting pressure on quarterbacks, getting the quarterback and trampling the run on the way to the quarterback, we just try to make their job as simple as it has to be.

Q. Do you have any individual goals, anything after the benchmarks you set last year?

MALIEK COLLINS: For sure. We're going to get to the quarterback a whole lot more. I mean, that's really the goal. Get to the quarterback, more TFLs, more explosive plays, take the ball away more. We are going to improve overall as a whole defense but individually we've all got to raise our standards, too.

Q. After four wins last year, what's the mentality? Is it a hungry mentality? How would you characterize the team?

MALIEK COLLINS: For sure, everybody out here grinding. Everybody here, I mean, we just out here having fun and working together. I mean, we understand that we were a four-win team last year and we are doing our best to improve that.

Q. Do you always have fun on your shoes?

MALIEK COLLINS: Have fun, be decisive. These are old cleats.

Q. Unfortunately you guys had two injuries. When you see your teammates go down, does it change the tempo of practice a little bit?

MALIEK COLLINS: I ain't going to speak on that.

Q. What are were your impressions of Harris?

MALIEK COLLINS: I'm paying attention to the front but I have seen flashes.

Q. Back to Kenyon's Corner, what does it involve? I felt like they moved on too quickly.

MALIEK COLLINS: No, we just be in the meeting room, Jock will pass him the mic and essay what he got to say and we all feel it. We all get something out of it. It's a good tempo. I wish I could say it, too, but Kenyon, he great with energy. He's just a great guy to be around.

Q. Take your cell phone and shoot it for us?

MALIEK COLLINS: I try but I don't bring it in meetings.
