Texans - 24, Jaguars - 20
Q. (On what you have with C.J.)
NICO COLLINS: I feel like we work scrimmage, off schedule plays every day in practice. You really don't know where he's looking, you just try to find the open void.
But Seven, he's special. He's the type of guy that's going to extend the play. Always looking downfield, so I feel like the play is never over. He's always going to find that hole, that void. Seven's going to find you. That's what we've been doing.
Q. Your offense had six possessions, six punts or five possessions, whatever it was. Then nothing. Then on the last possession, you had six first downs, 69 yards, and a touchdown. What happens on the last touch you're able to win?
NICO COLLINS: We had to dig deep, really put our minds to it, really who wanted it more. It was backed up, down by three, and we knew we needed a touchdown. I feel like in that huddle, man, we're talking to each other like, man, let's go. This is what we train for. This is what we're going out there practicing every day straining for out there in the heat.
In these moments right here, it's easy. We all lean on each other in the huddle and just taking one play at a time. Out there balling. Out there and got the W. I feel like that was the most important for us.
Q. Coach was saying part of what makes you a great target is how competitive you are at the catch point. What goes into building that?
NICO COLLINS: Whenever the ball is in there, just go get it. It's yours. Got to be aggressive at the catch point, aggressive hands, and I just go get it. That's my mindset every time. The opportunity comes, you just never know when the next one is going to come.
Whenever the ball comes your way, just go get it. Have your first down sight ready and move the sticks for the team. That's my mindset. Whenever the ball is in the air, just go get it.
Q. Nico, 15 catches, 3 out of your 4 games you've had over 100 yards. Now knowing this is possible how consistent you've been, is that your new standard moving forward?
NICO COLLINS: Yes, it is. I feel like my standard is continuing to be me, continuing to block out distractions, continue to be myself. Continue to find the things I need to work on, which is everything. I find there's always room for improvement in your game.
My mindset, man, don't get too comfortable. Continue to build, continue to take care of my body, continue to be available for the team, and just let the rest be the rest, and all the pieces will fall into place.
Q. The first four weeks right now and you're on pace for almost 2,100 yards. When you hear your name and numbers like that, DeMeco says that you deserve all the praise, All Pro, Pro Bowl, what goes through your mind when you hear these kinds of numbers and the accolades?
NICO COLLINS: It doesn't feel real. Those type of achievements you want to have. It's early, but it's a great position to be in right now. I feel like for me continue to be myself, don't get comfortable, and continue to build, find that one percent. It's a marathon. It's a long season, man.
I feel like for me just find ways to be available. Finding ways whenever my number is called and make a play for the team. That's what I've been doing. Going out there with my brothers in between the lines, and there's no better feeling going to war with them.
I feel like when we're on our details, we're onto something. For us, man, continue to build, continue to be myself, and just push everybody around me and continue to go.
So that's my mindset right now, just be the same every day and don't get comfortable.
Q. You set a franchise record for most receiving yards through a player's first four games of the season today. Congratulations.
NICO COLLINS: Thank you.
Q. What do you think has been the secret to your consistency?
NICO COLLINS: Like I said, man, not getting comfortable. Taking advantage of every game. Whenever you step between the lines, it's what you live for. It's the same game you've been playing your entire life. It really comes down to how much you want it and the details and continue to strain. It's a long season. It's a marathon.
It's not easy. It really comes down to your preparation, how to take care of your body, and going out there and having fun.
I feel like that's what I'm doing right now, having fun, and blocking out the noise, and being there for my team. Making plays for my teammates whenever I'm called and letting everything fall into place.
I'm not thinking about the numbers or wherever I want to be. I know my goals. I want to be healthy and just be available and just let the rest be the rest. Continue to build and continue to be myself, and thank God for everything.
Q. That last (No microphone)? What are you thinking in those moments when you guys are down?
NICO COLLINS: It's one of those situations where you know what the team needs. We were backed up with how much time, maybe three minutes left. We know just take one play at a time. We know we wanted to score, wanted to put points on the board, but we can't just go out there acting crazy. Just take one play at a time, move the sticks man, and that's what we were doing. Every play, we go to the huddle, let's go, just breathe one play at a time, and keep stacking.
That's what we did. We moved the ball down the field and drove, and Seven trusted in us, and we trusted in him. And we went out and made a play.
I feel like for us we've got to fix the details and can't keep getting in second and 20, second and 30, because it's kind of hard to get back on track.
Continue to be sharp. Continue to find little details. It's a marathon. I feel like we've got to continue to build, continue to have fun, and just enjoy every moment.
Q. You were saying working on those details. What's something that you guys do offensively that allow you to get into that rhythm to kind of move away from those second and 20s, third and 15s, to have that fast pace in some of those drives?
NICO COLLINS: I feel like we got to get back and make a play so we can back on track. I feel like we did. We never got our heads down. We continued to build every play, just take one play at a time, and that's what we did. We ended up moving the ball down the field and ended up putting points on the board.
That's very important. Keeping the drives alive and one play at a time. That was our mindset. Just put points on the board, and that's what we did. Having trust in each other, having each other's back, and that's what we did.
Q. The things that DeMeco said when we asked him about the chemistry with you and C.J., and he said you guys don't want to hear this, but he gets open. Talk about how you're able to do that.
NICO COLLINS: Seven is special. He's the type of dude that's always playing down the field and finding open boys. I feel like whenever the play is over, it's not really over. Just finding The Open boy for him, and he's going to make a play. He's a playmaker.
We put our trust in him, and he trusts us. I feel like that's what it really comes down to. He's got our back, and I feel like for us continue to build, continue to work on the things we need to work on offensively, defensively, and overall. So we continue to build, continue to grow as a team. It's a marathon.
Got to get ready for every week. Every week matters. Got the W in this division at home. No better feeling. Getting ready for next week. It's Buffalo. It's another big matchup. Just have fun and be us. Let's not make it more than being what it is.
