Ka'imi Fairbairn

Postgame Press Conference

Houston 23, Bills 20

Q. Can you talk about what it feels like to hit the 59-yard walkoff field goal? Just how much confidence your team has in you?

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: Yeah, I feel a sense of calmness when I'm out there, when I'm walking out. I think that's just from preparation.

And then when it comes off my foot, you know, it's not up to me anymore. I did all I could.

You know, had a nice little cut on that one that went through. I'm thankful, and then it was just celebration, enjoy it with my teammates.

Q. ... you became the franchise's all time winning scorer with that 47-yard kick. Overall thoughts being in this organization, seeing the way this team has gone through to where it's at now, combination of your emotions.

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: Yeah, it's a special one. I don't take it lightly. One guy definitely have to shoutout is Jon Weeks. He's been with me every step of the way, every single snap. So he's just a part of that as I am. I'm very thankful for him.

And all my teammates. A stat like that doesn't happen without everybody involved, offense, defense, special teams coming together and getting those points.

Yeah, I'm happy. It's incredible. I'm honored to be here for this long. I am hoping to score a lot more.

Q. DeMeco said after the game they had a lot of confidence in you. Can you talk about your confidence in the situations and how much of a process it is working I guess up to that distance?

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: Yeah, I think kickers, I only can speak for myself, but I love the opportunities like that, especially when it's coming down to it and you just -- you know it's going to happen. Whatever yardage it is, yeah, I really don't care. I want that shot.

I think that's part of being good at this job, is wanting that and wanting that opportunity. Yeah, I look forward to them.

Q. When you are thinking about the (regarding Robert Woods -- indiscernible) off right to put you guys on page to where guys get where you're trying to. Walk us through the dynamic. Were you thinking that far ahead or do they leave you isolated? (Indiscernible.) What was the plan is I guess what I'm asking about, the approach from Woods?

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: Yeah, so it's honestly I kind of just read the game as it is, as it flows. I mean, the last minute of the game is insane if you really look back at it. We get that penalty. Then we move back. Then we punt. Tommy has a great punt. Pins them down. Then we go three and out. Get the ball.

At that point I'm like, okay, we have 16 seconds. We maybe need five yards or something like that. We got the five and then just let it rip, you know.

Yeah, it was wild. When we punted that ball and we got that first stop after the first I think it was -- it was incomplete or something like that. I went back to my net because I'm like, hmmm, I'm just going to stay locked in just in case because this game is crazy.

Yeah, I stayed locked in and what happened happened.

Q. Obviously the last time the Bills were in this stadium, had a similar result with a walkoff overtime kick. Any memories of that come up, whether it was the celebration, lead up, anything?

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: No, not -- I wasn't thinking about that. I was in my moment. Yeah, just a calm presence is what I was thinking.

And, yeah, that was a wild game, too. Yeah, just enjoy playing the Bills I guess here.

Q. You brought up Jon Weeks and the impact he's had on your career. His overall demeanor and the conversations you have, how does he keep you mentally prepared for these moments and calm in situations when the team is trusting you to go out there and make the big time play?

KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN: Yeah, he's just been a really good friend first of all. Then he's just Mr. Reliable. Every day he's here working. It is a thankless job but he's been doing it a long time and very good at it. Yeah, grateful for him.
